Mayors Message:
What a fun and joyful time Christmas is. The Mayan end of the world
came and went and I no longer need to hide under my desk. There is so
much candy, cake, specialty breads, and sense of good cheer here at City
Hall that it is hard not to be affected. Christmas will be passed by the time
you read this letter but, let me wish you all a Happy New Year. Let us all
hope for the best, and then plan for it. We can plan for better and achieve
it. We can set goals and fulfill them. It was in the early spring of the year
that we used to get all of those seed catalogs. Oh! What beautiful pictures
they contained. We would plan our gardens fill out our seed orders and
mail them off. We would still go through those catalogs. It felt good to be
excited as spring approached. I miss those days of hopeful anticipation. (I
lived a long ways away from town) However I think that we can achieve
the same today. We could go in together as neighbors and create gardens
on those vacant lots here in town. Instead of unsightly weed patches or
sterile earth, we could be looking at the verdant green of a beautiful vege-
table garden. We could teach our children the value of hard work and the
joy of the harvest. We could enjoy great tasting produce and maybe even
store some away for the winter season. I can think if no better gift that we
could give our children than the knowledge and value of being self suffi-
cient.
Can we do it? Yes! We can! Should we? I believe so. We could have a great
deal of fun and get to know one another better. We could help to feed the
poor and ourselves. Please email me: mayor@rexburg.org with your sug-
gestions and ideas.
Again Happy New Year
