DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPAIR PROCESS -SEE PAGE #2 OF THIS PROCEDURE. ~: 03-20-2003 ET-IRF-72 / Rev. 0 / ~B & L'Steel ComQanv Welding Procedure Saecification 350 North Geneva Road "' Lindon, Utah 84042 Phone (801) 785-7749 "' Fax (801) 785-0841 WPS Number: SRP-01 (Page 2 of 2) Revision Number: Two [2] Date: 03-20-2003 DETAILED REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS This procedure, although reflecting AWS D1.1-2000 Procedure B-U6; for U-Groove joint configuration, is basically that configuration created by air-carbon arc gouging for the removal of surface or sub-surface weld metal or base metal defects identified by various non-destructive examination, (NDE), methods. This application of the procedure is for the purpose of removing defective material and effecting repairs, by welding, of the deficient condition. REMOVE DEFECT• Air- carbon arc pouaina and / or arinding. NOTE: PROPER PREHEAT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PRIOR TO AIR-CARBON ARC GOUGING TO PRECLUDE THE POSSIBILITY OF CRACKING OR PROPAGATION OF THE DEFECT BEING REMOVED. REPAIR WELDING TECHNIQUE: 1. After gouging is complete, grind the repair area to remove carbon and other residue, to bright metal. 2. Preheat area to the appropriate temperature for a sufficient distance around the repair area to prevent excessively rapid cooling which may cause cracking. 3. Starting the arc SHALL be at a point outside the repair area to prevent clusters of porosity, normally associated with striking of the arc, from being incorporated into the repair area. 4. End each weld pass outside the gouged area to prevent cluster porosity or slag entrapment normally associated with the stopping of the arc. 5. After each successive pass, wire brush, and grind the weld bead if required, to assure complete slag removal. 6. When sufficient weld passes have been made to bring the repair area above the base metal level, grind the surface to the required contour. 7. Repair areas SHALL be inspected using the same NDE method as was previously used in the discovery of the flaw. 8. Should the repair area show evidence of additional defects after repair and inspection, repeat repair operations NOTE: ADDITIONAL REPAIRS OF THE SAME AREA MAY REQUIRE ENGINEERING APPROVAL. Vai: Suite 602 Tempe, Arizona 85282 Thank you for patience in waiting for this response. In reviewing your comments there are six T 480.921.7577 F480.921.7579 that need a response: PRINCIPALS #1 -Fire Alarm System: As you are aware fire alarm drawings have been submitted to your David L. CassBl AIA AIA office and have been reviewed by Brad Johnson. He had several issues that needed to be MarkA Davis,AlA addressed. We have met with him and the fire alarm contractor and have worked these issues Jon A. Erdmann, AIA out. This should be a closed issue. Danaid T. Finlayson, AcHA, AIA David N. Fletcher, AIA #2 -Lock Box: We are aware that one is required. I have discussed this with Brad Johnson I A l but need to touch base with him again and obtain additional information on the type needed e A Brent B. Ha dcast gruceD.Haslem,AlA and the mOUnting IOCatIOn. Thomas C. Jensen, AIA Timothy F. Thomas, AIA #3 -Fire Extinguishers: The fire extinguishers are located on sheets A100a, A100, A101 , Robert M. Aitken, AIA A103 and A104. Note that I noticed when writing this response that we do not show any A102 Douglas L. Banks, AIA , on sheet A104 which is the mechanical level. I will request wall mounted fire extinguishers to CIDQ ae i be installed. I will forward you a copy of that request. l CostanGno, N ch M Jeffrey B. Gardner, AIA, LEED"" #4 -Automatic Fire Extinguishing Systems: The fire extinguisher system has been Lanny Herron, AIA Kenner B. Kingston, AIA, LEEDT'" reviewed and approved by the State Fire Marshal. It is being installed by Shilo Automatic Scott A. Larkin, AIA Sprinklers, Inc. I have sent a request to the contractor to verify that a letter of intent has been Bob Petroff, AIA submitted as well as proper certifications to you. w. Jeffreyrnorpe #5 -Structural Review: "Information and documentation of off-site steel fabricator." I delivered this information to you with plans and specifications on 10 January 2006. See attached copy of transmittal. And to make sure that you have it I have included another copy. The other part of the structure comment is to provide manufacturers requirements for all equipment seismic connections as per IBC Section 1621. What equipment do you need information on? I am sure that this is covered in the equipment shop drawings. They can be reviewed at the construction site or I can get you a copy. Let me know. #6 -Building Code Fire Compliance Review "Laundry Chute": You have asked that the laundry chute must comply with sections 707.13.1 and 707.4 of the 2003 IBC. We have a different view point on this issue. Here is the logic that was used in the design of the clothing return assemblies from the Locker Areas on the Main Floor to the Lower Level. IBC Section 707 addresses Shaft Enclosures- Paragraph 707.1 indicates that the Section applies where "shafts are required to " protect openings and penetrations through floor/ceiling and roof/ceiling assemblies. Form Version: 6/O6 ©2005 Architectural Nexus, Inc. Printed: 31 July 2006 07:45:17 L:\2004\04119 LDS Rexburg Temple\02 Project Mgmt Folder\24 Munidpal Agency-Code Review1241 Page 1 of 2 ~ . Paragraph 707.2 lists exceptions to where shaft enclosure assemblies are required. Exception 7 lists conditions 7.1 through 7.6 for floor openings where a shaft enclosure is NOT required. We meet all of the conditions within Exception 7, i.e: 7.1) does not connect more than two floors; 7.2) not part of an egress system; 7.3) not concealed in building construction; 7.4) not open to a corridor in Group I or R Occupancy; 7.5) not open to a corridor in a non-sprinklered occupancy; and 7.6) is separated from openings serving other floors -all other openings are rated shafts or have fire damper protection. Paragraph 707.13 deals with "refuse and laundry chutes" which are required to have shaft enclosures. Since the Exception 7 in Paragraph 707.2 is met, the provisions in 707.13 do not apply. We have, however, included a heavy gage stainless steel "liner/enclosure" and have specified aself-closing door at the top end of the chute. It is located in a vertical position behind the architectural cabinet doors, but does provide an atmospheric separation between the two floors. It will remain closed at all times except when someone is depositing a bag of clothing items which require laundering. It is our opinion that the installation as designed meets the intent of the Code since we are creating an opening that only connects 2 floors. I hope that this will resolve any outstanding issues. If there is any thing else or if you need additional information let me know.
