Councilman Barton Jensen .moved that the City sign .release to absolve easement of old sewer. Seconded by George , Catmull. All Aye RE: ASSOCIATION OF IDAHO CITIES MEETING IN IDAHO FALLS MAY 28 Mayor Porter mentioned that the Association of Idaho Cities was to have a meeting in Idaho Falls at the City Building May 28th. Councilman Barton Jensen said he would. try to attend. RE:~ CITY TO PAY $32.5-0 ON LITTLE LEAGUE TEAM Mayor Porter announced that the Police Association has sponsored the Little league team for several years. They are asking the city to share I the expense this year. Barton Jensen suggested the Council committ ~`" themselves to paying .only this year, one half the cost which is $32.50. All Agreed.. RE: CITY TO PURCHASE FOLDING CHAIRS Councilman Barton Jensen moved that the City purchase at least a dozen folding chairs. Seconded by George Catmull. All Aye RE: BILLS APPROVED Bills were presented in the amount of $19,374.78. Nile Boyle moved they be approved for payment. Seconded by Warren Porter. R INTERESTED OBSERVERS PR£$ENT Interested observers, Miss Howard a;nd Miss Bills, were there to see the procedure of a City Council meetdr~~ before going to Girls State. Councilman Barton Jensen moved that. Mr. Mortimer be' given approval to contact the employees, on their r~wn time and sae if they are interested, and appoint Afton Anderson as Fiscal Agent. George i Catmufl seconded the motion. RE B. D. ROWBURRY VARIENCE Mayor John C. Porter presented a petiti taken around by Gordon Tychsen on the B. D. Rowburry variance. All the neighbors within 300 ft. had signed. Councilrfian Barton Jensen moved in as much as we have 100 co-operation from the adjoining property owners, the City Council would grant D. B. Rowbury variance to put the proposed building at .410 West First North. Councilman Glenn Peterson seconded the motion. AlI Aye on to the council that had been All Aye RE: M. H. KiNG COMPANY GIVEN FIREWORKS PERMIT The M. H. King Company has turned in an application to sell fireworks. The application was granted if it complied with the ordinance which reads from June 15th. to July 26th. All Agreed RE: POLICE ASSOCIATION MEETS WITH COUNCIL ASKS FOR RAfSES -~ r Robert Smith, Chairman of the Betterment Committee of the Rexburg Police Association arrived at the meeting, .accompanied by Grant Bartchi and Dale Thompson, also of the committee. .They first expressed appreciation to the Mayor and Council for the co-operation they have received in the .past; they then went on to present the Council with reasons they felt the Police Department needed an 18~ cost of living increase. They pointed out the amount of time and cnaney necessary to train a good police officer. They felt that if the City didn't raise the present wages by i8~ and pay time and a half for court time, the officers would start accepting jobs with other law entorcement agencys. They thanked the Council for their'ttme~and left. Councilman Jensen suggested they have a special meeting with this committee and three councilman on the Police Committee. Ail agreed. The meeting was to be held June l4 at City Hall. RE: Paul Ricks asks for ZONING VARIANCE Paul Ricks of Rainbow Sport Shop, .asked for a zoning variance for I!4 of i block on Main Street to Commercial. After checking with the zoning maps to find that this area was ell eommerciai, Councilman Jensen advised Mr. Ricks that they would have to have mare than 50~ signature on a petition before they could grant a variance. Mayor Porter stated that he would have a disinterested party'take around a petition and advise. RE : J ACK RANDA LL HAS PROTE~aT AGA i NST- THE Ct~ST OF L I D 20 Jack Randall arrived at the meeting with a protest against the cost of LlD 20. He fait the-Mayor and Council should not charge him al) the LID costs as he had formally protested in the form of a letter to Mayor Henry Shirley, to ask that he not be included in the L4D. His request was denied but Mr. Randall was never notified. He also felt that where some of the trork had been done incorrectly and: had to be repaired at his. cost, that some edJustment should be made. Councilman Morgan Garner moved that the LlD cos-~~ be left the same but the City should reimburse Mr, Wendell fqr the ~'i3O6.39 he had paid Hartwell Co. for his cost. The Council agreed to ga ahead wi th setting ,up the LID if it could be completed this summer. ` A k~ RE` BIDS TO CODIFY OUR ORDINANCES City Attorney, Mar y Smith presented some bids from 2 companies who wish to codify our ordinances, After looking at th e samples and discussing costs, Councilman Nile Boyle moved that we accept Bid A from the Book Publ ishing Company and authorize the Glerk and Mayor to sign the contract. Glenn Peterson seconded.. All Aye RE: T. E. BAKER ASKS CITY TO PAY HALF OF DAMAGED DRIVEWAY Mayor John C. Porter advised the Council that T. E. Baker had. been in to see him with a grievance. It seems that when the .work on LID 20. was done his driveway was torn up and he had to have it repaired. He ', felt the City should share his costs. Councilman Nile Boyle moved that the City pay him $17.50 which is one half of the bill. Councilman Morgan Garner seconded. - All Aye RE: A E C TO HAVE PARKING BEHIND THE REXBURG LIBRARY BUILDING Mayor John C. Porter read a letter that he had written to the Atomic Energy Commission. They had requested the use of the City parking lot for parking their buses. Councilman Glenn Peterson moved that we approve. the parking for one or two lauses on the City of Rexburg parking lot lot directly behind the Rexburg Library Building a 40 North Center Street. That for this service they will have to pay an annual fee of X50.00. They will also have to install at their owncost, an electric. outlet and pay their own electricity. It was seconded by Barton Jensen.. All Ays ~RE: BILL FROM CLAYTER FORSGREN FOR WATER~STUpY AND PROJECT Mayor Porter presented a bill from Clayter Forsgren for water study and project for $70,80©.84 and a request that the City sign a contract with him. Councilman Nile Boyle moved that we a;cce,pt the contract at. 12~ project cost and authorize the clerk-.and mayor to sign the contract. Councilman Barton Jensen seconded. TO P~IY GITY FOR 61"ACKTQPPING ALLEY x Attorney, Mary Smith informed the Mayor .and Council that Safeway Corp. will pay the City of Rexburg $1,765.32 for blacktapping the alley behind the new store, They wilt pay immediately upon completion. 12:00 Midnight.
