The roil being called and all councilmen present voting "AYE" carriF~d,
the Mayor declared that a majority of ail the members of the City
.Council had voted for the passage of said Ordinance and that said
Ordinance was duly and regularly passed. .Mayor Shirley then Declared
the motion carried.
RE: BILLS PASSED
Bills were read in the maount of $35,029.05 motioned by Jensen,
seconded by Peterson that same be paid.
Unanimously carried
RE: RESIGNATION OF CITY CLERK AND TREASURER BEULAH JOHNSON
Resignation of City Clerk and Treasurer Beulah Johnson was accepted
with Mayor Shirley and Council expressing their appreciation for the job
that had been accomplished during her years at City Hall. Mayor Shirley
ask that Afton Anderson be appointed to fill the vacancy as City Clerk
and Treasurer. Pieper motioned we accept Afton Anderson as new
City Clerk and Treasurer. Seconded by Smith.
Unanimously carried
RE: APPLICATION READ FOR ADMINSITRATIVE POSITION WITH CITY
Mayor Shirley read 4etter of application from a man who was interested
in an administrative position with the City. Mayor Shirley said he
would pass this immediately over to Mayor Elect Porter.
RE: JAYCEES ASK FOR APPROVAL TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN ICE SKATING ilfNKS
Four Jaycees representives met with Council and asked that they be
given approval to help City establish and maintain ice skating rinks
in the City. They were commended and were requested to work with
streets Supt. Moulton on this project.
Motioned by Peterson that we adjourn at 9:55 P. M. Seconded by Smith.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL
MEETING OF THE CITY OF REXBURG, IDAHO
HELD DECEMBER 19, 1973
Mayor Henry Shirley was present and presided. Also present were
Barton Jensen, Richard Davis, Albert Pieper, and Ruth Smith. The
Mayor asked Mary Smith to take the minutes.
RE: LETTER FROM STATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM EXPRESSING THANKS TO BEULAH JOHNSON
The Mayor read a letter from the field representative of the State
Retirement System, James M. Collins, expressing his thanks to Beulah
Johnson for her cooperation in the audit and the fine manner in which
her records had been kept.

The Mayor stated he was especially pleased in view of the unexpec.fied and
untimely death of our city clerk, Beulah Johnson, that the council
and Mary had expressed to her their appreciation at the last council.

RE: VERN ANDERSON ASKS TO PROCEED WITH THE ANNEXATION OF HIS PROPERTY
The Mayor stated .that Vern Anderson had called him and wanted to
proceed with the annexation of his property immediately South of the
City limits. The matter was discussed.
RE: MINUTES READ AND APPROVED
Minutes of the regular meeting held December 5, 1973, were read and on
motion of Ruth Smith, seconded by Barton Jensen, and unanimously carried,
the minutes were approved as amended and corrected. Mayor Shirley read
the minutes of a special meeting held December 13, 1973, at 3:30 p.m.
On motion of Richard Davis, seconded by Ruth Smith and unanimously
carried, the minutes were approved.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL
MEETING OF THE CITY OF REXBURG, IDAHO
Minutes of the regular meeting held January 2, 1974, at 7:30 P. M.
at City Hall.
Present and presiding Mayor Henry Shirley. Also present were
Councilmen Glenn Peterson, Barton Jensen, Dick Davis, Ruth Smith,
Warren Porter, and Albert Pieper.
4f _. Others present were Mike Green of the Post Register and Roger Porter
of the Rexburg Standard and Journal. Present also were .Tom Williams
and Vern Anderson as interested observers.
Minutes were read by Attorney Mary Smith. Motion was made by Ruth
Smith that the minutes be approved. It was seconded by Dick Davis.
ORDINANCE 545
City Attorney Mary Smith read Ordinance 545 annexing 40 acres on
South 5th West, the 40 acres being zoned Commercial. Tom Williams
and Vern Anderson asked that a strip along the frontage of 5th West
be zoned R 2 or R3 to restrict the building along the road. They felt
this property should be zoned Residential to comply with the Residential
area it joins. Barton Jensen recommended frontage 294.7 ft. wide and
240 ft. deep be zoned R2.
