TIIE ORDINANCE #522
A motion was made by Barton Jensen, seconded by Ruth Smith to suspend
the rules and have said Ordinance placed upon its final passage.
The Mayor ordered the roll call of the Council called, and the roll
being called by the City Clerk for the suspension of the rules was
as follows:
Those voting "AYE" Barton Jensen
Glenn Peterson
Richard L. Davis
Albert Pieper
Ruth Smith
Warren Porter
The roll being called and all Councilmen present voting "AYI"
carried. 1'he Mayor then called far the voting for final passage of
the Ordinance, the motion was made by Barton Jensen, seconded by
Ruth Smith. The Mayor ordered the roll call of the council called,
and the roll being called by the City Clerk for the final passage
of the Ordinance was as follows:

carried, the Mayor declared that a majority of all the members
of the City Council had voted for the passage of said Ordinance

Shirley then declared the motion carried.

AN INTERIM ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING SUFFICIENT FUNDS FOR PAYMENT OF
EXPENSES AND SALARIES BY THE CITY OF REXBURG, IDAIIO, DURING TH1: ~~~72
FISCAL YEAR PRIOR TO THE PASSAGE AND APPROVAL OF TIIE ANNUAL APPROPRIATION
ORDINANCE; PROVIDING WHEN THE ORDINANCE SHALL BEC01~4E EFFECTIVE.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL
MEETINGS OF THE CITY OF REXBURG, IDAHO
Regular meeting of the Rexburg City Council held January 19, 1972.
Present and presiding Mayor Henry Shirley.
Council present Warren Porter, Barton Jensen, Glenn Peterson, Albert
Pieper, and Richard L. Davis. Absent Ruth Smith.
Others present Mary Smith City Attorney, City Clerk Beulah Johnson,
KRXK Reporter Dennis May, a reporter from the Post Register and
David Bly from the Standard ~, Journal.
Minutes of January 5, 1972, were read. Motioned by Davis, seconded
by Pieper that they stand as read.

BIDS FOR AIRPORT PROJECT
Clayter Forsgren opened bids for the airport project as f-ollows:
1. Bannock Paving Co. $165,324.60
2. Robert Bergraff Company 187,986.90
3. Kennaday Paving Company 147,505.55
There was no award, at this time as time was needed to study the bids.
The men representing the bidding and Gary Ball were present. The
bids will be awarded Monday, January 24, 1972.
PERMISSION TO USE VACANT~~OR DUMPING SNOW
Mayor Shirley stated that the City had permission to use the vacant
lot in back of the Catholic Church for dumping snow, in the future.
MEN FROM MAPLE DRIVE OBJECT TO NEW ORDINANCE 523
Verl Wilding and Bryce Winters appeared at the meeting to protest the
parking ordinance. Both men live on Maple Drive and own two cars.
They stated that there was no off street parking available for people
on that street and there was no way of making any more parking space
for them. They felt that this street was rarely cleared of snow
during the night. Mayor Shirley said that certain adjustments could
be made after the Ordinance was in effect, but it was the general
feeling of all that this Ordinance was in the best interest of the majority
of Rexburg.

OF REXBURG, IDAHO, FOR THE REPAIRING OR STORAGE OF AUTOMOBILES, TR[JCKS,
BICYCLES, WAGONS OR OTHER CONVEYANCES, MACIIINE, IMPLEMENT OR O'I'LIER ITEM
OF PERSONAL PROPERTY; DECLARING IT THE DUTY OF THE POLICE OFFICERS TO
TAKE POSSESSION OF ANY SUCH ARTICLES FOUND DESERTED AND UNCLAIMED FOR

Passage of a new Ordinance on the direction of the traffic in the alleys
was tabled for further study.

POLICE PRESENT 1972 BUDGET i=, ASK FOR RAISES FOR THE DEPARTMENT
Murray Ford police chief, and Blair Siepert Capt. of the force
presented their 1972 budget to the council. The chief requested a
a pay scale to use for the future in the department, also a raise,
to grant himself and the department over a two year period. Councilman
Davis objected to the threats from member of the police force leaving
for better pay. Ford stated that 'this wasn't a threat but a fact,
stating that he himself couldn't afford to live here at the present
wage scale. No action was taken on the budget at this time as each
department would be presenting theirs in the near future.
BILLS READ ~ APPROVED
Bills in the amount of $18,716.44 were read and approved for payment.
Motioned by Jensen seconded by Davis that same be paid,
Unamously Carried
