RE: OLD BEER ORDLN?.NCE SH~~ULD BE REVISED
Richard Davis recommened that the old beer ordin. be revised, they
were all in agreement that it was outdated.
RE: EQUIPMENT TO CLEAN CITY SEWERS NEEDED
Davis is to investigate the purchase of adequate equipment to clean
our city sewers, the problem of sewer and particularly Berkeley
Parkinson which recently had the sewage coming into his basement.
The council all felt that the preventive equipment should be
purchased, and Davis is to investigate.
RE: CHIRSTMAS PARTY
Ruth Smith announced that the Christmas party will be held at 6:30
at the Manwaring Center on December 21, 1971, with buffet luncheon
and entertainment for all city employees.
RE: LARGE BLEACHER FOR PORTER PARK NEEDED
Also purchase of the large bleacher for Porter park was discussed,
and it was felt they were badly needed, as the old ones were a~
hazard.
.RE: CITY SKATING RINKS
Progress on the City skating rinks was discussed.
RE: ENFORCE OFF STREET PARKING
After discussion on the parking on the streets. Glenn Peterson
stated that he felt that the Council President and ;Mayor Shirley
s,~ould meet with the police and take steps to see that the
people with rental units should be contacted and enforce the off
street parking.
RE: JO1~ RAY ASKS FOR CURFEW
Jon Ray met with the council, asking for a curfew ordinance.
Mary stated that we had one but felt that it should be revised and would
look into the matter.

Regular meeting of Rexburg; t:ity Council held January 5, 1972 at
7 : 30 P . A1, at City Hall .
Present and presiding Mayor Henry Shirley.
Council present Barton Jensen, Glenn Peterson, Richard I,. Davis,
Albert Pieper, and Ruth Smith. Absent Wendell Ritchie.
Others present were David Blye, representing the Rexburg Standard t;
Journal, City Attorney, Mary Oldham Smith, City Clerk Fa Treasurer,
Beulah Johnson.
Minutes of December 15, 1971 were read corrected, moved by Glenn
Peterson, Seconded by Bartan Jensen that they passed.

RE: CABLI? TV FOR FIREMAN
Discussion on Cable TV for fireman. Dic_i,ion made that the fireman
could make their own plans for Cable TV.

A decision to pay Gordon Tyschen for his services on various jobs.
R USE OF FIRE HOSE FOR SKATING PONDS
Also the problem of using fire hose for skating ponds was discussed.
Dan Moulton is to be incharge of all hoses.
COUNCILMEN SWORN IN AND ELECTION HELD
This concluding old business for 1971.City Attorney ~~lary 0. Smith
swore in Warren Porter, new councilman and the two re-elected
councilmen, Barton Jensen, and Glenn Peterson. Porter was placed in
charge of sanitation department. Albert Pieper was named the new president
of the council. Nomination by Glenn Peterson, nomination cease, Richard
by Richard L. Davis. Moved by Barton Jensen and seconded by Richard L.
Davis Motioned for his election by Barton Jensen.

Building permits issued for December 1971.

Attorney ASK TO DRAW UP ORDINANCE LIMITING PARKING
Moved by Barton Jensen that Mary draw up ordinance limiting parking
between 2 a. M. and 7:00 A. M. from November 1 to March 1.
Seconded by Glenn Peterson.

RE: SERVICES OF MAX BRINTON DISCUSSED

The .'Mayor reported that the county commissioners had met and made the
decision that the services of Max Brinton was no longer needed after
January 1, 1972, and $150.00 per month would no longer be available
from the County. His duties and work was discussed.
POLICE CHIEF MURRAY FORD REPORTS LAST YEAR'S ACTIVITIES
Police Chief Murray Ford met with the council and reported on the
past year's activities. He submitted a request for the city to
participate in a Law Enforcement Association grant which would
enable four new officers to be hired. Motioned by Barton Jensen
that we accept the Lea grant to hire four additional policeman,
Seconded by Ruth Smith. All voting aye. Richard L. Davis voted no..
RE: ALBERT PIEPER TO CHECK ON BOOKLETS
Albert Pieper to check with the college on booklets for the City and
check back.
RE: NEED OF NEW ROAD GRADER
Discussion on the need of road grader. Davis stated that bids would
be revised and ask for bids on two sizes.

THE ORDINANCE #522
A motion was made by Barton Jensen, seconded by Ruth Smith to suspend
the. rules and have said Ordinance placed upon its final passage.
The Mayor ordered the roll call of the Council called, and the roll
being called by the City Clerk for the suspension of the rules was
as follows:

Ruth Smith
Warren Porter
The roll being called and all Councilmen present voting "AYE"
carried. The Mayor then called for the voting for final passage of
the Ordinance, the motion was made by Barton Jensen, seconded by
Ruth Smith. The Mayor ordered the roll call of the .council called,
and the roll being called by the City Clerk for the final passage
of the Ordinance was as follows:

The roll being called and all councilmen present voting "AYE"
carried, the Mayor declared that a majority of all the members
of the City Council had v«ted for the passage of said Ordinance

Shirley then declared the motion carried,

Present and presiding Mayor Henry Shirley.
Council present Warren Porter, Barton Jensen, Glenn Peterson, Albert
Pieper, and Richard L. Davis. Absent Ruth Smith.
Others present Mary Smith (:ity Attorney, City Clerk Beulah Johnson,
KRXK Reporter Dennis May, a reporter from the Post Register and
David Bly from the Standard $ Journal.
Minutes of January 5, 1972, were read. Motioned by Davis, seconded
by Pieper that they stand as read.
Unanimously carried
