Barton Jensen asked for a vote from the council on sponsoring Murray Ford,
Chief of Police's membership in the Rotary Club. Motion denied.

Mayor Shirley set up a meeting with b1r. Christopherson, owner of KRXK ~
property at 2:30 P.M., January 21, 1971 at City Mall, with Building Inspec
tor, Tom Mathews, DeWayne Wilding, planning Board, Barton Jensen and Larry,
Perkins.
RE: DISCUSSEll NEED OF A NEW STREET SWEEPER
Albert Pieper discussed the need of a new street sweeper, stating that the
old one would need extensive repairs. He would like permission to secure
information on purchasing a new one. Mayor Shirley agreed it whould be
looked into.
Dick Davis motioned we adjourn at 11:30, seconded by Wendell Ritchie. Unan-
imously carried.

MEETING OF THE CITY OF REXBURG, IDAHO
Regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Rexburg, ~,1adison County,
Idaho, was held February 3, 1971 at City Hall.
Present and presiding: Mayor Henry Shirley
Council members present: Barton Jensen, Albert Pieper, Ruth Smith, ~;lenn
Peterson, Wendell Ritchie, Dick Davis.
Also present, City Attorney Mary Smith, Clerk and Treasurer, Beulah Johnson.
Also Phil Berger from the Rexburg Journal.
MINUTES
'Minutes of the January 20th meeting were read,motioned by Richard L. Davis
that they be approved as corrected, seconded by Barton Jensen, unanimously
carried.

Albert Pieper reported the City needs to replace the

RE: MEETING HELD WITH MP.. HANCOCK AND MR. CHRISTOPHER50N
Mayor Shirley reported on the meeting held January 2i~t t~ith Mr, t{anCock and
Mr. Christopherson on the Mansard Village, stating that permission had been
given, permitting seven four plex units to be built on the south portion of
the old KRXK building.

RE: REPORT ON GAS BOARD MEETING
REQUEST FROM JIM HOWE FOR STUDENT HOUSING AT CORNER OF MAIN AND 1st E.
On advice from the planning board the council turned down a rec{uest from
Jim Howe to provide student housing in the Howe Building at the corner of
Main and 1st E., because of the lack of parking space, motioned by Glenn
Peterson that the permit be denied, seconded by Albert Pieper.

HEALTH, ACCIDENT AND LIFE INSURANCE FOR THE CITY EMPLOYEES
Health, Accident and Life Insurance for the City Employees was discussed, it
was decided to go with the Company represented by the Association of Idaho
Cities. It was motioned by Bart Jensen, seconded by Ruth Smith that we go
with this company.
Barton Jensen reported on the Gas Board meeting. He suggested that all gas
repair men be certified. Also to school all police on what to do in case of
an emergency, concerning gas lines. Mayor .Shirley will appoint a new member
to the gas board to replace Jim Wood.
RE: COMPLAINT ON OLD CARS AND DEAD ANIMALS ON CITY VACANT LOTS
It was reported to the council that old cars and dead animals and other
debris on certain vacant lots in the city were camsing a health hazard and
dangerous to children playing in the area. Mayor Shirley told the council
that he would make sure that action be taken immediately.
RF'^ RESOLUTION
BE IT RESOLVED, that Henry M. Shirley, Mayor of the City of Rexburg, Idaho,
be, and he is hereby designated as the official representative of the City
of Rexburg, Idaho, to sign all documents in connection with the Federal
Increase in grant offer to aid in cost and construction of the City of
Rexburg, Idaho, Sewage Treatment Facilities.

RE: DISCUSSION ON INSURANCE AND LIGHTS FOR '1"flE AIRPORT
There was a discussion on Insurance and lights for the Airport. It was
motioned by Barton Jensen, seconded by Dick Davis that the City give $500.00
a year to the airport and let them be responsible for insurance and lights.
Unanimously carried.
RE: EASTERN IDAHO NUCLEAR ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP
Ruth Smith moved that we continue our membership for the council with the
Eastern Idaho Nuclear Association, membership being $15.00. Seconded by
Barton Jensen. Unanimously carried.

Idaho, was held February 17, 1971 at City Hall at 7:30 P.M.

Minutes of the February 3, 1971 meeting were read. Motioned by Glenn
Peterson, seconded by Albert Pieper that they be approved, unanimously carried,
RE: APPROVAL OF HOUSING COMPLEX FOR Dick Saxton
It was motioned by Barton Jensen that approval be given to a Housing Complex
for Dick Saxton, subject to approval by the Planning Board. A chain link,
fence would be satisfactory if provisions are made to shield neighbors from
car lights. Seconded by Dick Davis.
