and seconded by Jim Keller to approve the minutes.
David G Sevy was at the meeting to request putting an instrument repair and refinishing
shop at 169 North 5th West which is in a R2 Zone. They have a shop in Idaho Falls
but the family would rather live in Rexburg. They now have to transport instruments
to the Upper Valley from Idaho Falls. He has 30 years of experience and has a good
business. Mr Sevy said he is now using his home as an office to take in work. He
gave the commettee a petition which he had his neighbors sign. He would like to build a
building on his property to refinish and repair furniture. Bob Purrington ask him if
it would be better to get a location in the downtown area. He said he did not want
to be in direct competion with the music stores, because he does repairs for the
' ~usic stores. Jim Keller explained to him that if he did get a variance granted
and built a building and wanted to sell the property, it could not be used for a
business after it was sold and he would be out the cost of the building. The next
option would be to get it re-zoned to Commercial, and it would not be good to just
re-zone one lot, it would be better to re-zone the whole block. Mr. Sevy said a
variance would be sufficient because the building that would be built would be
reusable for residential purposes. Bob Purrington told him he is in violation now
because he is conducting a business there. The city clerk said he did not have a
business license to do so. Gerald Taylor made a motion to have the city make a
survey for a variance or a re-zone, and then bring it back to the Planning Board
to review. All Aye
Gale Hathaway was at the meeting to present a final plat for a Sub Division in a
R3 zone. He said he would like to have a roll curb. He planned to put up a
bond to guarentee finishing the sub division and would finish the two houses
on 1st North first. Mr. Hathaway had made the changes suggested by the department
heads. A motion was made by Jim Keller and seconded by Kris Mix to approve the plat:.
