HomeMy WebLinkAboutP&Z MINUTES APRIL 21, 1952• Regular Meeting of the Planning Board held April Zl, 152
The meeting commenced at 8:00 P.M. at the Rexburg city hall. Roll
ca7.1 showed the following members present, H. W. Jacobsen, Jack Tout, John L.
C1_arke, Mr. Mark Seipert,. and Clyde Packer,
Mr. Armstrong presented a map of the present pipe facilities of the City
of Rexburg, According to Mr. Armstrong it seems as though our piping system is
inadequate, What pipes we do have are too small in the larger portion of the
city to give us the full maximum pressure for our fire hydrants and also it
overburdens the pumps in the city park so that we do not have a maxiumum capacity
that we could have if these pipes were 6 and 8: inches instead of 2 and 4 inches.
Mr, Armstrong believes that his next project will be placing 6 inch pipes
in the Eastern part of the city that will be following up towards the new
residential area that is being built up at the present. In this way and by doing
it now they will not have to cut into lawns, fences, shrubs, trees and etc. Mr.
Armstrong believes that the Planning Board should have in consideration a long
range plan to change the cityts piping system.
One very weak place at the present is the pipe that is now located up
College Avenue. Also a larger pipe will have to be built for our industrail
end of town and our residential area on the northern end of town.
• There was a discussion among the Planning Board members for taking away the
park ways in front of the college and on Main street. The opinion of the
Planning Board seems as though they would like to have these taken away, but
no motion was made as to the decision.
The Committee reports were as follows:
Jack Tout, Chairman of the Building and Finance Committee, suggested that the
large building on the Western end of Main street could be bought by the city
for $65,000.00. This building is 50 by 150 feet. If the city was interested
this wouldhouse the entire fire department and possibly do for all the offices
that are now located in the City Hall Building across from the Tabernacle. Mark
Seipert suggested that this building would take approximately six to ten thousand
dollars to finish off the inside so as it could be used for the offices that are
now located in the city hall. It was the general opinnion that this building is ~
not the ideal site that the now present City Hall is situated on. However,
they do believe that this suggestion by Mr. Tout is well worth looking into,
H. W. Jacobsen, Chairmain of the Zoning Problems, presented an up to date
map, taking into consideration the past corrections of the Zoning problem through-
out Rexburg. The .Planning Board feels as though this zoning map will soon be
ready for presentation to the City Council.
Mark Seipert, Chairman of the Water, ~ Sewage Committee, will have to have
more time to present ideas on these problems because of the vastness of this
• project. He feels as though by next month that he will have an outline of this
problem.
Health, Sanitation and Moral Conditions Chairman, John L. Clarke, suggested
that the fluorintation of the City of Rexburg will have to be looked into •
before we make a proposal to the City Coiaaicil.
According to Mr. Artell Chapp~,n at the College this is not necessary at the
present time.
The general opinion of the Planning Board in regard to the Slot Machine
Question is that the slot machines should go. However, some of the members
feel that they are a source of inoome to the city and at their present locations
they are not doing any harm to the city itself.
Mr, .Jack Tout and John I.. Clarke will visit Sugar City within the next week
and talk with the men that are in charge of the school board Cher and find out
their attitude on combining Sugar and Madison for one senior high school,
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 P.M.
