The regular meeting of the Rexburg Zoning and Planning Board was held
at the Utah Power Light Co. offices April 1, 1946 at 9:10 P.M.
Members of the planning board present were: D.G. Taylor,
D.H. Manwaring, Lee Browning, Alma Klingler, G.A. Anderson, Wayne Smart.
Minutes of previous meeting read and approved by motion of D.H. Manwaring.
Motion by D.H. Manwaring that the minutes of each meeting be presented
to city Clerk for use in City Council meetings, immediately following
the meeting of the board.
Report of the AirPort Committee Charman. Ed LEvine showed that efforts
were being made to qualify for courses of instructions provided for in G.I.
Bill of Rights. Ricks college will cooperate to give cousrses in connection
with college courses. Widening of runways and some other things are necessary
in order to qualify. Air Port to the present time has been largely self
supporting. Aid from city and state is being held in reserve to be used to
match Federal Aid if and when such funds are available. Plans are under way
to plant entire area with crested wheat grass to hold down dust on airport.
Ralph Parker, chairman of beautification and parks committee, reported
that 1700 trees had been ordered to be placed in nursery lot, preparitory to
extending wind break belt. Plans are under way to name different varietites
of trees for various streets of the city. A good bit of study and planning
is necessary to get proper results.
Mr D.W. Stowell, reporting for Streets and Roads committee, said that
meetings had been held with property owners of block 40. All are favorable
to opening new street except one. Deeds to the city covering street property
have been drawn and will be completed in next few days. They propose a 60
foot street including side walks parking and gutters.
Mr. S.J. Skelton of the Civic Center Committee, reported that a meeting
had been held with the American Legion and the Veterans fo Foreign Wars, and
that the service men had voted approval, and pledged support in the erection
of a County Memorial and Civic Center Building.
Mr D.G. Taylor reported that there was a general sentiment of approval
for the Memorial building. Technicalities of getting legal phases of the
project can be worked out if there is a unted front. Mr. T.W. Smith and
Attorney C.W. Poole are studying the problem to find ways and means.
Oswald Christenson, reporting for the Federal Building Committee, said
that his committee had appointed George Hoopes, postmaster to keep in close
contact with the Federal Government. Money has not as yet been appropriated
but it is expected soon.
