SIGHT DISTANCE ANALYSIS Using the AASHTO Green Book (Section 9-56, Case F) for a local road with a 25-mph design speed and a combination truck (WB-67) as the design vehicle, the required intersection sight distance is calculated at 280 feet. Our review indicates that if the proposed trees in the planter strip are allowed to mature, they will obstruct the line of sight, reducing the available sight distance to approximately 145 feet. The orange cone represents the restricted 145-foot sightline assuming mature tree obstruction, and the green cone represents the required 280-foot sightline. City of Rexburg – Public Works Addtn’l Applicant Response Comments for the University Towne Center Subdivision Application March 25, 2026 Page 2 PROPOSED SOLUTION To ensure the intersection meets the required 280-foot sight distance while maintaining the current intersection layout, we propose the following modifications to the submitted plans:  Tree Removal/Replacement: Remove the four trees currently designed within the planter strip (marked in red in the second image below). Replace with planting that have an obstruction height of less than 3.5 feet.  Planting Restrictions: Stipulate that future plantings in this area need to be less than 3.5 feet and avoid additional signage/structures that could obstruct views within the required sight distance triangle (the green cone).
