City Council Drive Around
8:30 A.M. Breakfast at City Hall Council Chambers
5th West Sewer Line Project: City Council viewed the site where the contractors are digging the sewer line to service the new LDS Teton River Temple and all other developments in the
area west of 2nd East and east of Highway 20. They are pressed for time to get as much done as they can before the ground water rises to the point they can no longer work until it
lowers in the fall. They discussed possible infrastructure needs with streets and sidewalks in the area for pedestrian safety. PWD Keith Davidson is unable to commit to an approximate
time the sewer project will get done. It all depends on ground water levels and how fast the contractor can work.
Teton River Park – Teton River Bridge – Barney Dairy Rd to 7th North: City Council viewed the area for the new Teton River Park and discussed the timeline for the first phases of the
park construction. They would like to get grass planted this year and possibly the boulder climbing feature placed.
10:00 A.M. New Altura Building Tour: The Council toured the new Altura building that the City sponsored the Community Block Grant for.
5-Year Street Capital Improvement Plan – The Council did not have the time to discuss this item. Keith Davidson gave them the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan Map to review and to let
him know if they have any questions in preparation for the May 20th City Council meeting. We stopped by Rexburg Rapids and viewed the liner of the main pool and the masonry work on
the front side of the building, and discussed finding solution to get them repaired.
Wastewater Treatment Plant: The Council drove through the treatment plant and viewed the upgrade to the headworks project and also viewed the area where we are possibly installing an
improved drying system.
Tabernacle: The Council walked through the basement of the Tabernacle where the staff has demolished and cleaned it out in preparation for the new HVAC system and basement remodel part
of the Tabernacle Restoration project.
Steiner Park: The Council viewed the Steiner Park area at 829 S 5th W. They discussed flood irrigation for the park, scattering grass seed, and keeping it fertilized and mowed to improve
the quality of the grass. They also discussed planting some trees and different possible features for children’s playgrounds and walking paths as well as fencing and parking.
University Ave to 2nd East – The Council briefly discussed potential growth in that area. Keith Davidson stated the University was willing to maintain the drainage pond west of the
Stake Center on University Rd and approximately 5th West.
12:00 P.M. Lunch – City Hall
