1. Secretary Patten shared minutes not written up from November meeting. No vote to approve them.
2. Secretary Patten continuing to research history of Seminary building, Diet Center, Ferguson home,
school lot.
3. Vice Chair L. Jones suggests the lot is a civic-minded corner with Don Ricks mural and a small park. Vice
Chair L. Jones will look at Jorgenson’s history, especially the chapter on the flood. This corner should
be the inspiration for any redevelopment so that Rexburg does not become Any town, USA. Keep
Rexburg what made it Rexburg.
4. Vice Chair L. Jones and D. Jones will gather data of other towns historic examples, especially other
Seminary building reuses.
5. Chair Empey shared her vision of historical being incorporated in landscape with walking path,
connecting the seminary building lot and perhaps the pump house location on 2nd East. Questions
about the old Maverik lot on Main and 2nd West. Hotel owns the lot and can’t have competing
business, unknown if they would be interested in the location use as museum or visitor’s center as
investment in the family community.
6. City Liaison Platt reported Flood50 with Juls Thompson and asked what kind of presence Historical
Preservation Commission would like to have at the event? Budget controller listed as Scott Miller.
7. Reviewed decal design by Communications Officer K. Mounts for vinyls and medallions. Additional
contrast suggested and size increased to easily be seen from a distance on structures. Jones
neighborhood use decals as part of walking tour and encouragement to others to purchase their
decals.
8. City Liaison Platt will arrange tour of pump house for Friday, Dec 12 and let Doug Ladle know.
Commission to meet there to image and discuss pump house possibilities.
