Subject: City Council Members-City Council Agenda & Planning &Zoning Agenda Items
To all Rexburg City Council Members,
I am unable to attend the City Council and Planning&Zoning Agendas (in-person or remotely) due to my
employment, but I wanted to share two thoughts on some upcoming items.
The first is the "2. Discussion of possible amendment of Ordinance No 1128 Beer and Wine Sales in the
City of Rexburg. Rexburg Municipal Code 6.03.180 Issuance Prohibited To Premises in Certain Locations
-Action Item." I wanted to know what the proposed action was, and I wanted to share that I hope the City
Council members will not support amending this ordinance to increase the spread or accessibility of
alcohol in Rexburg beyond its current level. In fact, I wish it were lower than it is. If you can share the
proposed amendment and consider my views while discussing it, I would greatly appreciate it.
The other issue is for the Planning&Zoning discussion on "9. Public Hearing- (25-01261) Loveland
Development- Comp Plan from C&IR to C&IR- Located at approximately 801 S 12th W, the application is
to change the comprehensive plan designation from Commercial and Intermediate Residential to
Commercial and Intermediate Residential.—Jalen Fuhriman (Action)
10. Public Hearing- (25-01268) Loveland Development- Rezone from RR1 to LDR3 & MDR2 & RBC—
Located at approximately 801 S 12th W, the application is to change the zoning map from Rural
Residential 1 (RR1)to Low Density Residential 3 (LDR3), Medium Density Residential 2 (MDR2) and
Regional Business Center(RBC).—Jalen Fuhriman (Action)"
MDR2 is higher density than the Meadows—potentially 3-story apartment buildings. With the Gem Prep
school approved for construction on 12th West already, I am concerned that building out these empty
spaces with high-density residential development is a bit concerning, given the traffic choke points to
cross Highway 20 from the west.We would really need a connection with 7th over 20 before this should
be considered. I am opposed to developing MDR2 high-density in these areas because I am a resident
nearby and concerned about the congestion we already experience. I hope the City Council will not
approve such a rezoning.
Thanks for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Michael Cornick
