HomeMy WebLinkAboutSky Bridges 9.17.25City Code for Skybridges (Development code and Form base Code) Definition: Skybridge. An enclosed, elevated bridge extending from building face to building face that spans a public street, public alley, or is located within private property and provides an uninhibited pedestrian walkway. 3.09.010 Purpose To establish appropriate locations for skybridges, maintain pedestrian safety, and ensure the design of skybridges contributes to the built and natural environment. 3.09.020 Skybridge Standards for all Zones Skybridges are subject to administrative review and require an approved Conditional Use Permit (CUP) and Air Easement Agreement. All skybridges shall: Comply with the following standards and all other applicable regulations for the zone. Comply with all Building Codes and Engineering Standards adopted by the City of Rexburg. Be maintained and kept in good condition. The maintenance of heating, cooling, lighting, cleaning, repair, replacement, etc. are the responsibility of the building owner(s). Be kept free of obstructions. 3.09.025 Skybridge Location and Construction Standards 1. The location for any skybridge must be reviewed and approved by the Public Works Director or designee prior to its construction. All skybridges shall: Be fully enclosed. Be constructed with approved facilities for the discharge of all roof drainage. Maintain a minimum clearance of sixteen (16’) feet six (6”) inches between the bottom of the skybridge and the public street or alley. / Have a minimum interior width of eight (8’) feet but not exceeding fourteen (14’) feet. Be designed to be horizontally level with the street. Changes in grade shall be accommodated so that the skybridge appears level from the exterior. Meet the minimum required fenestration of twenty (20%) percent. Be constructed with exterior glass that is anti-glare and impact resistant. All exterior glass in the skywalk structure shall be not less than one-quarter inch thickness tempered glass set in metal frames. The use of double-paned insulated glazing and of metal frames with thermal breaks is encouraged. Not contain a glass floor. 3.09.030 Permitted Uses Skybridges are to be used as an unobstructed pedestrian way only. Prohibited Uses. Commercial, Vending, Retail, or Residential uses within skybridges are prohibited. 3.09.040 Signage Only public directional signs relevant to pedestrian ways are allowed on or within skybridges. 3.09.050 Public Skybridges. Public skybridges shall provide at a minimum one (1) access point to the street and include a vertical access facility. *Update Permitted Uses Chart *Update Sign Standards Chart
