Subject: Proposed charter school on 12th west
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express serious concerns regarding the proposed construction of a charter school within one mile of two
existing schools in our community. While education is an important aspect of our community, the location currently
being considered is not suitable due to major infrastructure limitations—specifically those involving 12th West.
12th West is a narrow two-lane road that already experiences significant traffic congestion during school start and end
times. In particular, northbound traffic becomes heavily backed up, creating a bottleneck that severely delays school
buses, parent drop-offs, and local commuters. Additionally, making a left-hand turn onto or from 12th West during these
peak hours is nearly impossible, leading to traffic build-up, driver frustration, and unsafe maneuvering.
Adding a third school to this already strained corridor would only intensify these issues, escalating what is currently a
frustrating situation into a truly hazardous one. I can only imagine the count of accidents already on this road during
these times with teenage drivers in a heavily congested area.
This is more than just a traffic inconvenience—it is a serious safety concern. The increased congestion would heighten
the risk of accidents, place students and pedestrians in danger, and further obstruct emergency vehicles attempting to
access the area. No infrastructure improvements have been proposed to address these issues, which makes proceeding
with the project in this location both irresponsible and short-sighted.
From a planning and community-impact standpoint, the infrastructure around 12th West is not designed to
accommodate the current demand, let alone the increased load a third school would bring. Without significant traffic
mitigation measures or road expansion, this project will only worsen the already unsafe conditions for everyone who
travels this route.
For these reasons, I strongly urge all decision-makers to reconsider this proposed location. Until the infrastructure—
especially the capacity and traffic flow on 12th West—is meaningfully improved, building another school in this area
poses an unacceptable risk to student safety and community wellbeing.
