Back conference room Roll Call of Committee Members: Chair Empey, Vice Chair L. Jones, J. Patten, K. Mounts, and R. Robinson City representatives: Not in attendance: Councilman Chambers, City Liaison Tietjen, City Liaison Jed Platt and Ali Rockwood Committee Chair Empey welcomed committee and referenced agenda to start Items of Business 1. Committee Chair Empey asked for approval of last meeting minutes. Vice Chair L. Jones made a motion, seconded by Communication Officer Mounts. 2. Last meeting action item of group photo rescheduled by Communication Officer Mounts. for next meeting, due to weather. 3. Vice Chair L. Jones reported on Chamber of Commerce discussion with Diane Bruce. Chamber invites this commission to attend lunches 3rd Wednesday each month in Atrium. Next meeting will be June 18. Jed Platt is speaking for Chamber in July on the Flood 50 plans. 4. Vice Chair L. Jones reports the Chamber does not have funding for loans or grants for businesses upgrading, or historical renovations; suggests this commission has a table at Chamber meeting and asks what small funding is available from the city for printing materials. 5. Chair Empey suggests putting packet together of "professional historical consulting services" that the commission will offer businesses on historical preservation and design suggestions, including procedures and contact information. A local business, Junes Place, wants to restore some original features from the earlier Rexburg Bank era and asked City Liaison A. Tietjen for commission direction and advice. Chair Empey will schedule a visit and suggests next commission meeting (June 11) be held at Junes Place. 6. Historian Patten shared several flood related updates: A) "That Day in June" book published by Ricks College will be released by BYU-Idaho with CC4 by nc non-commercial on June 5, 2025. Digital access link to be shared with this commission and Rexburg- Madison Historical Society (new President Doug Ladle). B) Gave report on CIMA (Conference of Intermountain Archivists) and is working with Boise State and Utah State to access their Teton Flood collections, C) Historian Patten approved to present poster on National Impact of the Teton Flood for Society of American Archivists. Communication America's Family Community. Officer Mounts volunteers to help as graphic designer. 7. City Liaison Platt (not in attendance) is planning walking tours of all business impacted by Flood, using scrapbook 1978 as resource. Communication Officer Mounts suggests medallions for each business, similar to the Pioneer grave markers. 8. Historian Patten shares Research folder of City Pump House history. Date of June 22, 1990 verified in Rexburg Standard Journal as when Sunbonnet Camp DUP placed monument #454 at the 1st schoolhouse, on the corner of 1st S and 2nd E. Committee Member R. Robinson uses GIS data to ask for deed #. Historian Patten shows how to research old land plats, using BLM GLO website. 9.
