Subject: Urgent Request to Halt the Use of LIDS in Rexburg
Dear Rexburg City Council,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my concerns regarding the continued use of Local
Improvement Districts (LIDS) in Rexburg. As a resident, I believe that these LIDS are not only financially burdensome but
also create significant inequities among residents, and I urge you to consider halting their use in our community.
LIDS impose unfair financial obligations on property owners for improvements that benefit the larger community. While
such improvements may be necessary, the way LIDS operate disproportionately places the financial burden on a few
individuals, often without their consent or proper representation. Many residents are left with significant, sometimes
crippling, assessments that can create long-term financial strain.
In addition, LIDS can lead to unnecessary delays in development projects, especially when property owners are unable to
afford their assessments. The process also lacks transparency, often leaving residents in the dark about the costs and
timelines associated with these projects.
I believe that these issues are contrary to the values of fairness and equity that our city strives to uphold. I encourage
you to explore alternative methods of funding infrastructure improvements, such as citywide assessments, grants, or
other more equitable solutions that will bear the financial responsibility more fairly across the entire community.
Thank you for considering this important issue. I trust that you will take the necessary steps to ensure that Rexburg
remains a city that supports its residents without unfair financial burdens.
Sincerely,
Krista Flamm
