Dear City Council:
I am writing to express my concern and deep dissatisfaction with the LID plan. I have lived in multiple
areas of Rexburg for the last 18 years. I currently live on the section of Park Street that is scheduled for
the 2025 LID. Of those 18 years I have never lived in a home where the sidewalks, streets, and water
pressure/quality were this nice. There are no potholes. Water runs off and goes where it is supposed to.
The sidewalks are smooth and slant down on the corners creating an easy transition for all. They are also
wide enough for two people to walk side by side. The curbs are in pristine condition. They have
absolutely NO need for repair!!! Every other home I’ve lived in in Rexburg had bad sidewalks, potholes,
giant puddles, etc. One place had to have the water main replaced due to wear and tear. This part of Park
Street DOES NOT need repairs!
That brings me to my next concern. Why are perfectly fine areas being “fixed” when other areas of town
are literally falling apart. I know three people who have had their water mains break during the last two
winters. Are their areas of town on the list for being repaired? NO! This is ridiculous to me. Why are we
wasting good money on things that don’t need to be repaired while other areas drastically need help?
Speaking of money, I do not agree with the LID system. Homeowners do not get to decide whether to opt
in or out of it. From what I see, too many people have received bills that were substantially larger than
they were originally quoted. Many people cannot afford this type of bill. It needs to be spread out
amongst the entire city or another solution needs to be found. To quote the American poet Mattie
Stepanek, “Unity is strength…when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be
achieved.”
I am coming here to ask you to please change the way things are being done. Enough damage has
happened. Let’s look for better solutions!
Thank you for listening to my concerns and frustrations. I hope to make it to the special meeting, and I
wish you all the best.
Sincerely,
Heather Valentine
