HomeMy WebLinkAboutIdaho State Regent Letter.docxIdaho State Society Janice Beller Idaho State Regent Greetings! My name is Janice Beller, and I am the current state leader of Idaho’s 900 members of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It is a priority of my administration to make 2024 the “Year of the Military Caregiver in Idaho”,bringing needed attention and support to the thousands of Idahoans who care for a veteran suering from a physical, mental,or moral injury. We have partnered with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s initiative “Hidden Heroes”to accomplish three main objectives in Idaho: ●Educate members of the public about who qualies as a military caregiver. ●Identify military caregivers and educate them about the public and private resources available to assist them in their roles. ●Speak –at all levels of government –in one voice of support for our state’s caregivers. To this end,we are asking Idaho’s state, county, and city governments to join us by committing to becoming a Hidden Heroes City by: ●Issue a proclamation supporting Idaho’s military caregivers. ●Identify a contact (an oce or person)who military caregivers can reach out to for assistance and direction. ●Assist us in identifying caregivers by providing a link on city website(s)to either HiddenHeroesIdaho.org or HiddenHeroes.org. That’s it!This project requires no nancial commitment whatsoever, rather,it is a commitment of public support for your community’s veterans and their caregivers.Of course, there are other opportunities you may wish to consider, but with these three steps above,we will: ●Post your proclamation and caregiver contact at our HiddenHeroesIdaho.org website. ●Include your city in the national Hidden Heroes Cities directory at HiddenHeroes.org. ●Provide digital resources,as requested, for distribution at city oces or websites. ●Include your city in a press releases issued during May 2024 (the National Month of the Military Caregiver) In this packet, you will nd several resources and materials that can help guide your eorts. Included are: ●The Hidden Heroes Caregiver Journey Map,which provides a powerful understanding of the journey that each caregiver takes with his or her Veteran;those rst realizations through to a mastery of the process. ●Ways to Support Military Caregivers –this one sheet provides simple ways that a community can support the military caregivers they know in their neighborhood. ●Hope Fund Direct Financial Support –the national Hidden Heroes organization provides nancial support to individual veterans in specic circumstances. These funds are available to Idaho caregivers!By helping caregivers to register with Hidden Heroes,we can get them on their way to seeking that nancial assistance. ●Ideas for County Support –this one sheet provides ideas about actions that cities and county partners can take to support military caregivers In this email,I have also included a copy of a powerpoint presentation, which outlines the information above and also shares two powerful videos…one of which shares the story of an Idaho’s woman journey to becoming a caregiver to her combat-wounded husband.I have also included a Word version of the proclamation we are asking cities to adopt and sign as soon as possible, but no later than May 1,2024.When you are ready to sign the proclamation, please feel free to contact the DAR chapter in your area.We would LOVE to come and celebrate with you, accept the proclamation on behalf of the project, and most importantly, personally thank you for your commitment to this project. In the meantime,if you have any questions,or if we can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at hiddenheroesidaho@gmail.com.
