Please include this petition and comments from petition for many of us that cannot attend the meeting
because of church calling obligations. I personally teach a community English class (EnglishConnect)
every Thursday and have students depending on me.
This is for Rotary Park at 245 Rodney Drive. We do not want it taken away and rezoned.
have attached the petition from Change.org.Almost 350 signatures from only 2 days of online sharing. If
the commission can only give us more time we can present better arguments.
Please include my comments. I think there is a disconnect between the city and the community. This
park is very well used. There has been no statement of the cost of upkeep for this park. If the point is that
the cost doesn't match the amount of people who make use of this park, that is a false statement. I want
to see other statistics on parks in the city. Every child should be able to walk safely to a park. I would not
let my child cross a busy street to get to a park by herself. Nor would so many other people. This park on
Rodney Avenue, Rotary Park, has mature trees, a big open grass area, and a fence separating it from the
road. It has access to the walkway along the canal and to the nearby schools. If they take that away,
where are the children supposed to go? Cross Barney Dairy Road to a new park that won't even be built
for some years? Cross Hill Road at a blind curve into Hidden Valley, which has a park, but with no trees
and no suggestion of a separation from the road?
My husband and I bought this house BECAUSE there was a park in the neighborhood. We can see the
park from our house. We're so close to the park, we can access the pokestops from our own house haha.
Who is going to answer for the drop in home values when we lose the park? Little can be done in our city
about inflation. But you can certainly protect our children and property values by letting us keep our well
used park.
If this park is taken away, this will not be the end.Along with the citizens of the neighborhood and our
friends across Rexburg, we will not let anyone forget that the City of Rexburg is actively removing green
spaces and areas of recreation.
urge you to please present a better argument as to why our city needs one less park. If your argument is
not based in statistics and facts, that I'd unacceptable. If you give us more time, we will gladly give you
our own findings as to how many citizens visit and make use of the park. Our petition was only collected
over a 2 day period (after many of us knew we couldn't attend this meeting in person).
Please do not take away the only place we have to enjoy within a safe reasonable walking distance with
our small children.
