WHEREAS, the City of Rexburg has not had adequate
financing to maintain existing streets, much less construct
much -needed new streets; and
WHEREAS, the City has sought not to impose additional or
increased real property taxes upon its residents; and
WHEREAS, there are means available by which the State of
Idaho could increase its revenues and share said revenues with
the cities thereby more equitably distributing the burden of
providing public streets, fire and police protection and other
benefits to its residents,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of
Rexburg requests the State Legislature to provide more revenue
sharing of state funds with Idaho's counties and cities. As a
suggestion, this could be achieved by increasing the gas tax
and distributing said funds to Idaho's cities and counties, or
increasing the distribution of sales or income tax to local
government.
We unanimously adopt the foregoing Resolution and request
positive affirmative action during this legislative session.
Dated this day of January, 1995.
