RESOLUTION NO. 2016-13
BY THE COUNCIL:
A RESOLUTION BY THE REXBURG CITY COUNCIL DESIGNATING TEMPORARY MEASURES INTENDED TO ACCOMODATE AN INFLUX OF VISITORS DURING THE SOLAR ECLIPSE ON AUGUST 21, 2017 AT 11:33A.M.; AND TO
ALLOW FOR THE SUSPENSION OF THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE CITY CODE IN RELATION TO SHORT TERM RENTALS FOR A PERIOD NEAR THE ECLIPSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE FOR THE SUSPENSION OF THOSE
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS OF CODE FOR THIS EVENT.
WHEREAS, the Rexburg City Council (“City Council”) and Mayor of Rexburg, do acknowledge the many events that will surround the Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017 at 11:33 A.M. affecting
the Rexburg area and the Upper Snake River Valley; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rexburg will be in the direct path of this solar eclipse, making it an ideal viewing area for not only the members of the Rexburg community, but for visitors from
other parts of the world; and
WHEREAS, the City Council and Mayor recognize that current regulations relating to Short Term Rentals may not allow for the anticipated influx of visitors to the area, and the demand
may exceed the capacity for overnight guests; and
WHEREAS, the City Council and Mayor are desirous of maintaining order in the community; and
WHEREAS, the City Council and the Mayor have determined that the inability of the existing facilities to safely accommodate the anticipated influx of visitors to the area may result
in unmanageable circumstances in the community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REXBURG, IDAHO:
In order to accommodate the anticipated influx of visitors due to the Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017, restrictions relative to “Boarding Houses”, “Bed and Breakfast Inns” or other
similar forms of short term rentals, will be suspended for public health and safety reasons from, and including August 13, 2017 to August 27, 2017.
ADOPTED by the Council of the City of Rexburg, Idaho, this 15th day of March, 2017.
