City of Rexburg to hold Citizens Committee
Academy

TheCity of Rexburg is hosting a CitizensCommittee Academy onWednesday, March 31
TabernacleCivic Centerat 7 pm. All citizenswho arecurrently appointed to a City of Rexburg
committee orboard arerequested to attend, aswellas, any citizenwho is interested in serving on a
committee in the near future.
Thepurpose of the meeting is to informcommitteemembersabout the legal requirements of the
committees,as well as help the committeesfunction moreeffectivelyandefficiently.
?We have many committees who advise the Mayor and City Council and are all offering a greatand
important service to the community.Wereally appreciate their work and would like to makesure
everyone hasthe training theyneed,? said Mayor Shawn Larsen.
The Mayor andCity Council will address such topics as purposeof committees, committee
appointments, meeting notices,agendas, public meeting law, minutes, rules of orderand voting, the
role of the City Council liaison, staff support, ethics,conflicts of interest, public announcementsand
communicating with the Mayor andCityCouncil.
?TheCity Council relieson the advice and recommendations of thecitizen committees in nearly every
area of city governance,?said Council President PaulPugmire. ?We?re looking forward to meetingwith
everyone andworking moreeffectively together.?
Committees that should be attendance include: Planning & Zoning Commission, U.B.C.Committee,
Airport Board,Golf Board, Trails of Madison County Committee,Historical PreservationCommittee,
Traffic Safety Committee, Tabernacle CivicCenterCommittee, Fine Arts Committee,Museum
Committee, Downtown Vision Committee,Parks & RecreationCommittee, Rexburg Beautification
Committee and Mayor?s Youth Advisory Board. Committee membersare appointedby the Mayor,
ratified by theCity Council, and providesupport to theCity Council in their subject area.
