Post reads: City of Rexburg Published by Sarah Kennett-Cromwell · 22h · The Public Hearing for the Comprehensive Plan Final Draft will take place: TOMORROW: AUGUST 17TH, 2023 AT 6:30 PM IN COUNCIL CHAMBERS! The community is invited to review the draft and attend the meeting. The draft can be viewed on our Engage Rexburg | Plan Rexburg website: https://engage.rexburg.org/en/folders/planrexburg THANK YOU REXBURG! ***See attached image that was included on post*** Comment Reads: Jed N Platt Page 42: “Research the possibility of nominating sites (e.g. the Tabernacle Building) to the National Historic Register.” The Rexburg Tabernacle is already listed on the National Historic Register; however, there are other significant sites in our community that merit consideration, and protection, as part of the comprehensive plan. Since it is a public building, and is central to our community identity, the Tabernacle Civic Center should have its own line item—addressing its future use and plan for preservation. Because it is considered to only be of “local significance,” its National Historic Register status is little more than honorific, and does not guarantee its protection or make it eligible for national preservation grants. Thought you’d want to know. No other comments on the post or on Engage. Thanks!
