HomeMy WebLinkAboutFwd_ _INTERNET_ Re_ Clearance Table 234-1.msgHi Shauna, Here's my conversation with the Rocky Mountain Power rep regarding clearance for my structure/hottub --> 13.5 feet of clearance from the electrical line. I also spoke with Sparklight today (phone call) about the communications lines and they simply said I just need 2ft of clearance from their lines. I'm sending this so you can add it to my permit and to have a copy at the city. Thanks, Ryan Willmore ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Gatherum, Brendan (PacifiCorp) <Brendan.Gatherum@pacificorp.com <mailto:Brendan.Gatherum@pacificorp.com> > Date: Wed, Jul 12, 2023 at 7:27 AM Subject: RE: [INTERNET] Re: Clearance Table 234-1 To: Ryan Willmore <ryanwillmore@gmail.com <mailto:ryanwillmore@gmail.com> > Ryan, We do have those same references in our standards for the pool clearances but it states in our standards that hot tubs, spas, jacuzzis, whirlpools etc are not considered as swimming pools hence the clearances for swimming pools do not apply and it recommend using the table 234-1. With that being said I have been doing some more reading and it appears that the horizontal clearances most likely apply to them running along side of a building or other structure. So as long as the 13.5’ vertical clearance from the highest point of your structure such as the roof can be met you should be fine installing your hot tub in the center of your yard. You will just have to make sure that you can meet the clearances from the low hanging communications conductor and that they will not have to be raised as we have to maintain a clearance between our lines and theirs. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me. Thank you! I'm really trying to vet this out and see if there's any option to make this work. Now that it is 7.5 feet horizontally I'm not sure that's going to even fit. I just went out and made some rough measurements and that puts me too close to the fence and that would just be the tub ... not the roof line..... Are you sure there aren't other guidelines that come into play if it is covered by a roof? Looking out my window across the street I see that the SAME LINE is running right over my neighbor's house. I'm including a picture of this. I'm hoping we can come up with some sort of plan that works for all of us ..... Some possible things to consider: 1. The hot tub itself is a mobile/non permanent structure 2. the gazebo/roof over it could also be some sort of non permanent structure (per the city if it is under 200 sq ft I don't even have to have a permit for it) 3. Here's an image from another book that the inspector for the city was using..... could this apply instead? Anyway, I'm super hopeful we can come up with something.... The horizontal clearance that will be required is 7.5’ and the vertical clearance being 13.5’, these are measured off of the furthest edge and top of the hot tub to be installed to the neutral conductor. As there are lines over 750-22kv we are referencing that section of the table. As long as those clearances can be maintained the installation of the hot tub does not pose any issues or dangers.
