Main St. Suite 111, Rexburg, ID 83440, 208-852-6236 Memorandum DATE: 12/20/22 TO: Mitchell Nordmann FROM: Ben Anderson, E.I, and Ray McDougal, P.E. SUBJECT: Interior Kitchen Wall Removal and New Beam Install, 231 S. 2n8 E., Rexburg, ID MEMO: Findings: The existing wall that separated the kitchen from the front living room was built of 2x4 studs at 16" o.c. The wall was a full height wall that was bearing on the floor and stopped at the bottom of the ceiling joists. The ceiling joists over the kitchen are bearing on this wall. The framed wall sits directly above the foundation wall which is beneath it. There is currently only one opening/walkway in the wall at the end of the wall. The wall is to be removed and replaced with a beam that spans 18' from the current outside wall, which is perpendicular to the existing wall, and to the opposing wall which is the east wall of the kitchen/living room. Analysis: The loads that will be carried is the ceiling joists that span the kitchen. To fit within the existing wall widths, (2) 1-3/4"x14" 1.9E Microlam LVL's were selected to support the ceiling loads. At each end, (2) min. vertical 2x4 columns are to support the beam. The beam will attach to the vertical king stud via (2) 5" Ledgerlok screws. To attach the ceiling joists to the new beam, toe nail each side of the joist the top with a 8d nail minimum up to 12d. Recommendations: If the wall is removed and beam installed per this way, no recommendations are needed. if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.
