Sec. 13 th. SEWER .QOlmEC....11..UJIA,. E l'C .
It shall be unlawful for any person to construct or attach any pri-
vate drain with the pUblic sewera of the City of Rexburg, except upon full compliance with
the provisions of this ordinance.
All drain pipes shall be not leas than four (4) nor more than ei~ht
(8) inches internal diameter, and from the house or building to a point three 03) feet
uutoide the wa.ll or foundation thereof shall be of ca.st iron, and fror.1 that point to the main
sewer connection may be of either cast iron, vitrified clay pipea, or glazed cement pipe
at the option of the owner of the premises with which said sewer connection i~ to be made.
The cast iron pipe sha11 be sound, free from holes or cracks,
without traps~ valves or other obstructions which might prevent or retard the free passage
of air or sev(age.

All vitrified clay phle shall be of best quality salt gl.azed. It
shall be straight, smooth, thoroughly vitrified, free from lumps, blister and other defects,
of true cylindrical Shape and the inner and outer surfaces shall be concentric, and the

The walls shall not be les8 than nine-sixteenths of an inch in thickness for four (4) inch
pipe, and not less than t of an inch in thickness for a pipe eight (E) inches in diameter.
All cement pipe shall be first class, sound and uniform, and the
pipe shall not be used which ie less than 90 days old, nor containir.g more than ten (10%)
per (:ent voids.

part eement to one and one half parts of sand, and all pipe must be of best quality, and
laid on a firm bed, straight to the line and grades given by the City Engineer, on a uniform
grade not les8 than 1.67 feet per 100 feet for four inch pipe, and not leBs than 0.8 feet
?er 100 feet for eight inch pipe.
All change. in direction must be made by the use of pro~erly curved
pipes of not more than 1/8 bend.
The olean-out. must be located where directed by the Buperintendent
of the sewers, and in all cases must be as specified by him.
In case vitrified clay of cement pipe is used, the bac~fil1ing of
the trench shall not be made until the cement joints shall r~ve Bet fourteen. hours after
having been ~ade.
Sec. 14. PIPES. HOW COVER~D.
All'sewer conneo.tions must be covered wi th at least eighteen inches
of earth, which, for the first six inches in depth must be free from stonos or rubbish. and
the entire back-filling must be thoroughly tamped.
Sec. 15. ASSESSMEN~'S MUST BE PAIJJ.
Whenever-property or pa.rt of any pro0lerty to be dra.ined by a proposed
private drain or sewer connection, has been previously assessed for any sewer extension,
a.ny portion of such assessment remains due and delinquent at the time of application for a
permi t for such connection, no permi t shall be issued until such delinquent assessment :bas
been paid. Whenever ~ronerty proposed to be drained by a private drain or sewer connection
has not been assessed for the construction of the sewer to which such connection is propO~ed
to be made, jf said property abuts u~on the street in which such sewer is located, no
permit for such connection shall be issued by the superintendent of the sewers, nor shall
such connection be made until the owner of said property as propoped to be connected with
said sewer, or the applicant for such permit shall r~ve paid into the city treasury a sum equal

Sec. 16. JUNC'I'ION PIPES.
-Unless otherwise directed in the perlnit, a.ll private sewers or house
drains must be connected with junction pipes, slants or My" in the sewer at the point where
the connection is to be made, the opening of the sewer and the making of such connections
i8 to be made in strict accordance with the -permit and under the direction of the superin-
tendent of the sewers, and under his supervision.
Sec. 17. INSIDE OF DRAINe
--x1i-crri1na connected with the ?ublic sewer must be left smooth and
perfectly clean on the inside, and all dead ends must be securely stopped by some water

plumbing in the house or building to be connected i8 in accordance with the provisions of
the bUilding ordinance ~ertaining to plumbing. unless a special nermit for such connectiun
is granted by the superintendent of sewers.
Sec. 19.
PENAL TY
Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall, upon
conviction thereof, be punished by a fine of not exceeding One Hundred (t100) Dollars.
or imprisonment in the Ci ty Jail for a period of not longer than thirty days. or by both
such fine and imprisonment for each and every violation of this ordinance.
