HomeMy WebLinkAboutKevin Call Rezoning Letter to P&Z30 November 2022 Dear Rexburg Planning and Zoning Commission Members, We are writing in OPPOSITION to the proposed change in zoning from LDR1 to MDR1 for the area approximately located at 501 East 7th South, parcel numbers RPR6N40E296601 and RPR6N40E322402. Our principal opposition derives from the fact that the area proposed to be rezoned is encompassed and contiguous on three sides by areas of single family, residential homes. As individuals who have lived in two of the three surrounding subdivisions for more than 38 years, 1984 to 2008 on a corner of Terra Vista Drive and 5th East on the south edge of the Rolling Hills subdivision, and 2008 to the present time at 553 South 4th East on the northeast corner of the Eaglewood subdivision, we have lived and witnessed the reality that all these surrounding areas have functioned, in almost all aspects, as a single neighborhood and community. To now change the currently undeveloped geographical center of these contiguous areas to anything other than a continuation of the current zoning status and neighborhood make-up would result in an irreparable change to the long-standing feel, nature and character of this functioning and well-established greater neighborhood. In 2008, anticipating that the area now proposed for rezoning with its central location would naturally remain and continue to be developed as part of this larger single family, residential community was the principal reason for choosing to build our current home in Eaglewood after outgrowing our home in Rolling Hills. In fact, at the time we built our new home the area proposed for rezoning was anticipated to be developed as Phase Two of a larger Eaglewood project. Though such a development did not materialize at the time, we have always anticipated, expected and looked forward to the time when the area between our home and our Harvest Heights neighbors to the east and Rolling Hills neighbors to the north would fill in with a natural growth and congruent expansion of the current single family residential make-up of all these surrounding areas. Any change in zoning now will certainly result in a truly patchwork feel and approach to the overall planning and development of this geographic area. We would request that the Planning and Zoning Commission carefully consider the unavoidable changes the proposed rezoning would have on this area and protect the current nature of our neighborhood by not recommending the proposed zoning changes. Thank you for your consideration and the personal time and efforts you dedicate to the betterment of our city. Sincerely, R. Kevin and Janice Call 553 South 4th East Rexburg, ID 83440
