HomeMy WebLinkAboutMary Alice Briggs Letter in Opposition to Zoning Change at 501 E 7th SDear Planning and Zoning Commission,
My family moved to the Harvest Heights subdivision of Rexburg in August of 2022. Our
housing search took about 4 months. My husband and I looked at many prospective
homes in and around Rexburg and chose to buy the house we did based on the overall
look and feel of the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods. We liked that the
area was filled with low density single family homes. We did notice that there was a
large undeveloped parcel to the west of our subdivision, but we were confident that the
city would maintain the same contiguous feel of our neighborhood and surrounding
neighborhoods and maintain the LDR1 that the property is currently zoned.
The developer purchased this property knowing that the current zoning was LDR1.
They knew that LDR1 zoning called for low density single family homes and still
decided to make the purchase. Their interest in the property is short term. Those of us
who have chosen to buy homes in the area have a long term, permanent interest in the
look and feel of the area. Regardless of developer promises, if this proposed zoning is
approved, they would be allowed to build any type of structure permissible in the MDR1
zoning. Any MDR1 zoning would create an incongruent look in the middle of LDR1 and
RR2 neighborhoods.
I respectfully request that the planning and zoning commission reject the proposed
zoning change of the parcel located at approximately 501 East 7th South from LDR1 to
MDR1. Please choose instead to maintain the look and feel of the entire area (Harvest
Heights, Eaglewood Estates, and Terra Vista neighborhoods) by maintaining the
current LDR1 zoning. Those of us who choose to live here would gratefully appreciate
your consideration and foresight.
Sincerely,
Mary Alice W. Briggs
