HomeMy WebLinkAboutQuinn BriggsLetter in Opposition to zoning change LDR1 to MDR1 on 7th SouthDear Planning and Zoning Commission, My name is Quinn Briggs and I live on 601 Autumn Court here in Rexburg. I am writing in opposition to the proposed change of zoning from LDR1 to MDR1 for the parcel located at approximately 501 East 7th South. My wife and I recently moved to Rexburg from Saratoga Springs, Utah so I could work at the university here. We searched the surrounding area for a suitable place to live and were delighted by the property we found in the Harvest Heights neighborhood. The neighborhood is full of single family homes on generous lots. In the neighborhoods surrounding ours, there are also well maintained single family homes on low density lots. The fields of grain and hay that surround the neighborhood only add to its hometown charm. I was alarmed to hear that the field directly west of our neighborhood was sold and that the developer wishes to change the zoning to a higher density. I am certain that if this were allowed to happen, the charm and appeal of the area would be greatly impacted. Adding a medium density area directly in between two low density zoned neighborhoods would give the area a haphazard and unplanned feel. It would be out of character with the already established homes and neighborhoods directly adjacent to the lot. Those of us who have purchased homes in the area have come to expect that the look and feel of the area would be maintained. Medium density dwellings of any kind would break that expectation and would be undesirable for the city. The developer of this land stands to gain more money in the short term by increasing the density of this area, but those of us who plan to live here for a long time will lose something of greater value - the peace and low density character of the area we love. Thank you for your consideration. Quinn Briggs 601 Autumn Ct Rexburg, ID 83440
