HomeMy WebLinkAboutCarol Thompson - 397 Eagle CourtDear Deborah, First of all, thank you for all that you do. I am addressing you, as City Clerk, in advance of the Planning and Zoning Meeting tomorrow evening so that you can share this communication with the committee. We understand that a request has been made to rezone (from LDRI to MDR1) the 15 -acre parcel just east of S 4th E and just north of 7th S. We respectfully request that this request be denied, and that the parcel's zoning remain as LDRI. Fourteen years ago, we moved from Tokyo, Japan, having spent 10 years living in a high- density environment. Although we loved our neighbors and enjoyed living in a big city, we moved back to the US and chose Rexburg as our son was attending university here. We were immediately attracted to the LDRI environment that we found in the Eaglewood subdivision. We were surrounded by the consistency of LDRI and RR2 developments and the open, owner -occupied, single-family feel that the area provided. A great contrast from the busy, inconsistent environment that we had experienced in Japan where the housing environment was a hodge-podge of small single-family homes mixed in with low-rise and high-rise residential structures. We recognize that Rexburg is growing and has the need not only for low-density housing, but also medium and high-density housing to provide quality living for the incoming students and new, full-time residents. We only ask that consideration be given to maintaining a consistent plan respecting the aesthetics and appeal of contiguous LDRI areas. So far, this has been done in this part of the city and we only ask that the zoning in this area remains LDRI to maintain the appearance and feel of a consistent, well-planned community. I fear that introducing an MDR1 development in the middle of an LDRI/RR2 community would negatively impact this consistent, well-planned appearance and feel. Thank you for your consideration, and, again, I request that the rezoning request be denied and that the land retain its LDR1 zone designation. Respectfully, Carol Thompson Owner and Resident at 397 Eagle Court, Rexburg, ID 83440 (808) 443-4927 cmmthompgyahoo.com
