Lewis Re: Proposed rezoning of 501 E. 7th S., Rexburg, Idaho I am opposed to the rezoning of 501 E. 7th S. in Rexburg, Idaho. I live in Eaglewood. I feel strongly that this property should remain LDR1, low-density, single-family homes and not rezoned MDR1. I understand that the Planning and Zoning Commission has a huge responsibility in protecting our town as it grows to preserve its integrity. Rexburg is a beautiful, family-oriented community with the feel of a small town. My wife and I moved into our home because it was zoned LDR1 and so was the field in question. I feel strongly that it is important to preserve the integrity of this neighborhood rather that breaking it apart by rezoning it to a MDR1. As our town grows, especially because of BYU-I, we need to protect the family neighborhoods. feel that it would also be aesthetically wrong to break apart our residential neighborhoods established by Eaglewood, Terra Vista and Harvest Heights. The developers used Legacy Ridge Apartments as a similar use. Legacy Ridge is not a single family attached but college student housing. It was not zoned LDR1. Legacy apartments are adjacent to BYU-I and other apartments. The parcel of ground we are discussing at 501 E. 7th S. is zoned LDR1, not adjacent to the college or any other apartments. Comparing the two is irrational. I also do not feel this will help "our city move closer to fulfilling its vision for the area," as stated by the developers. This change in zoning will move us farther from our vision of a traditional feel and aesthetic neighborhoods. I sincerely hope this proposed zoning change will be rejected. Our community needs to keep high standards by protecting each and every neighborhood. We feel badly that outside developers come into our community, with no vested interest, and dictate to us how we should zone our community without any concern for the residents who love Rexburg. Rexburg is a wonderful place to live. Thank you for your time and consideration, Richard M. Lewis Homeowner
