Dear Mr, Herron,
A set of construction documents was received from you. These documents include a project manual and
two volumes of construction drawings. The project manual and the volumes of construction drawings
represent Bid Package No. 3.
A brief synopsis of the project follows to give those unfamiliar with the project a chance to become better
informed. The Rexburg Idaho Temple is expected to be constructed at the 700 South 200 East block in
Rexburg, ID. It will be located south of Brigham Young University — Idaho (FM Global Index 211.86).
The new temple is expected to have a total square footage of 57,504 sq. ft. and be construction of concrete
walls with concrete on steel floors. The temple will have a wet automatic fire sprinkler system. The
proposed automatic fire sprinkler system has three different automatic fire sprinkler system design areas.
The automatic fire sprinkler system for the storage areas has a design of 0.20 gpm per square foot over the
most remote 1,500 sq. ft. The automatic fire sprinkler system for the mechanical areas has a design of 0.15
gpm per square foot over the most remote 1,500 sq. ft. The automatic fire sprinkler system for the other
areas has a design of 0.10 gpm per square foot over the most remote 1,500 sq. ft.
The bid package has been reviewed per applicable FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets. The
bid package is considered acceptable provided the following recommendations are followed:
Project Manual:
1. Section 02513 states that the underground main should be installed per NFPA-13. The
underground main should be installed per FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet 3-10,
"Installation and Maintenance of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances."
2. Section 15196 indicates that a natural gas main will be installed for the facility. Because this
facility is located in FM Global Earthquake Zone 250, a seismic gas shutoff valve should be
installed on the natural gas main prior to the main entering the building. The seismic gas shutoff
valve must be independently certified as meeting ASCE 25-97.
3. The FM Global Hot Work Permit System should be used to monitor all activities concerning hot
work.

4. Section 07543 indicates that the roof will be a FM Class 1-90 roof. For a roof to be considered a
FM Class 1-90 roof, it must meet all of the FM Global specifications for a Class 1-90 roof. Obtain
the FM Approved Roof Assembly Number from RoofNav (www.roofnay.com). If the Assembly
Number is not known, provide the information listed below. We will review your roof
specifications, and provide a list of RoofNav Assembly Numbers for you to review and confirm.
Roof Specifications, including:
-Materials (Manufacturers, model and size for insulation boards, vapor barriers, adhesives,
membranes and any other component of the system.)
-Roofing System specifications, if approved as a system.
-Fastening specifications, including the manufacturer's name, model, and the proposed fastening
density.
-A completed Application for Acceptance of Roofing System FM Global Form 2688 will
capsulate the roof covering information.
5. Section 07624 states that the flashing would be installed. Flashing should be installed per FM
Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet 1-49, "Perimeter Flashing."
6. Section 07840 states that firestopping will be installed. The firestopping material used should be
FM Approved.
7. Section 13855 states that a fire alarm will be installed. Equipment for the fire alarm should be FM
Approved where available.
8. Section 13930 refers to National Fire Protection Agency 13 — 2002 as the installation guidelines.
All equipment for the automatic fire sprinkler system should be FM Approved. The seismic
bracing of the automatic fire sprinkler system should be installed per FM Global Property Loss
Prevention Data Sheet 2-8, "Earthquake Protection for Water -based Fire Protection Systems."
When they are available, all details pertaining to the automatic fire sprinkler system (material cut
sheets, hydraulic calculations, seismic bracing calculations, automatic fire sprinkler system layout,
alarms, etc.) should be forwarded to FM Global Plan Review Services for review and approval
9. Section 1.05 Part A. La of Section 13930 indicates the automatic fire sprinkler system for the
storage areas has a design of 0.20 gpm per square foot over the most remote 1,500 sq. ft. The
remote area should be increased to 2,000 sq. ft.
10. Section 1.05 Part A. Lb of Section 13930 indicates the automatic fire sprinkler system for the
mechanical areas has a design of 0.15 gpm per square foot over the most remote 1,500 sq. ft. The
remote area should be increased to 2,500 sq. ft. or to the size of the room if the mechanical areas
are smaller than 2,500 sq. ft.
11. Section 1.05 Part A. La.3 of Section 13930 indicates that the remote area in the automatic fire
sprinkler system design may be decreased when use of quick response automatic fire sprinklers are
used. FM Global does not recognize this reduction of the remote area due to the use of quick
response automatic fire sprinkler heads. Therefore, a reduction of the remote area should not be .
taken when the hydraulic calculations are made.
12. Section 15514 states that natural gas -fired boilers will be installed. A flexible piece of piping
should be installed between the natural gas piping and the associated boiler.
