THE BALANCE OF SUBBASINS #1 AND #2 SHOWN HEREON DRAINED TO THE STREET. ONLY SUBBASIN #3 RUNOFF HISTORICALLY REMAINED ONSITE, WHICH ALL DRAINED TO A 1’ X 2’ GRATE NORTH OF THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE BUILDING. MEASURING DOWN, THAT DISPERSION PIT IS 6’ DEEP, PRESUMABLY A ROUND PERFORATED MANHOLE BARREL WITH NO BOTTOM PER OLD CASTLE MH190, WITH SOME PERCOLATION OUT THE PERFORATIONS AND MOSTLY DOWN INTO THE UNDERLYING GRAVELS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL. THIS INLET AND DISPERSION PIT IS OF UNKNOWN CAPACITY, BUT THE ASSUMPTION IS THAT IT HAS BEEN SUFFICIENT TO PREVENT RUNOFF GETTING INTO THE BUILDING OR IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED AS A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE. PROPOSED DRAINAGE PATTERN SUBBASIN #3 REMAINS UNCHANGED. WHEREAS RUNOFF FROM SUBBASINS #1 AND #2 USED TO ALL DRAIN OFFSITE, NOW ONLY THAT WHICH IS MORE THAN THE CATCH BASIN DIVERSION PITS AND ONSITE STORAGE WOULD RUN OFFSITE. THE TWO DISPERSION PITS CONSIST OF 4’ DEEP 4’ DIAMETER OLD CASTLE MH190 CONCRETE MANHOLE BARRELS WITH 1” DIAMETER PERFORATIONS ON A 1’ X 1’ GRID IN THE SIDEWALLS AND HAVE A BOTTOM OPEN TO 1” DRAIN ROCK. THE VOLUME IS KNOWN AT 50 CUBIC FEET, BUT THE DISPERSION RATE IS UNKNOWN. BASED ON AS-BUILT SURVEY GRADES, THE ONSITE DRAINAGE SYSTEM WOULD FUNCTION AS FOLLOWS. FIRST, EACH SUBBASIN DISPERSION PIT WOULD FILL UP, AND THEN SURFACE STORAGE UNTIL OVERFLOW. SUBBASIN #2 WOULD OVERFLOW TO SUBBASIN #3, AND EVENTUALLY SUBBASINS #2 AND #3 WOULD OVERFLOW TO SUBBASIN #1, AND THEN ALL 3 WOULD EVENTUALLY OVERFLOW FROM SUBBASIN #1 TO THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF THE SITE OVER THE SIDEWALK AND TO THE STREET. QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS SUBBASIN #3 IS 21,213 SF DRAINING TO A 6’ DEEP CATCH BASIN WITH POSSIBLY THE SAME BOTTOM DISPERSION AREA AS THE DISPERSION PITS IN SUBBASINS #1 AND #2. BUT IN ADDITION TO THE SUBBASIN #3 PIT BEING 50% DEEPER, IF WE ASSUME IT HAS 50% MORE DISPERSION CAPACITY, THEN BY COMPARISON THE NEW DISPERSION PITS SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE RUNOFF FROM AN AREA 67% OF THE SIZE OF SUBBASIN #3. HOWEVER, SUBBASINS #1 AND #2 ARE 26.8% AND 27.5%, RESPECTIVELY, THE SIZE OF SUBBASIN #3. BASED ON THIS QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS, THE NEW DISPERSION PITS SHOULD BE OKAY. A SECOND QUALITATIVE CONSIDERATION IS THAT WHATEVER THE NEW DISPERSION PITS AND SUBBASIN STORAGE VOLUMES CAN HANDLE BEFORE OVERFLOW OFFSITE, IT IS THAT MUCH LESS THAN HISTORICALLY FLOWED OFFSITE. QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS DESIGN FOR NON-GRANDFATHERED SITES WOULD NEED TO CONTAIN 0.9” OF RAINFALL ONSITE AND NOT ADVERSELY AFFECT OTHERS IN A 1.3” RAINFALL EVENT. THE DRAINAGE CALULATIONS TABLE DOCUMENTS REQUIRED AND PROVIDED STORAGE VOLUMES WHICH ARE CONSERVATIVELY BASED ON NO DISPERSION DURING THE 1-HOUR RAINFALL EVENT. THE TABLE SHOWS THAT THERE IS 1101 CF STORAGE VOLUME ONSITE BEFORE THERE IS ANY RUNOFF TO THE OFFSITE WHICH IS TO THE STREET. THE PROVIDED VOLUME IS 73% OF THE 25-YR RUNOFF. WITH DURING-EVENT DISPERSION THERE MAY BE NO RUNOFF BUT IF THERE IS, IT WILL BE AT LEAST 73% LESS THAN UNDER HISTORIC CONDITIONS.
