Fire Department – Breakfast 9:00 A.M. Park Street Review: City Council drove down Park St and reviewed results of the new construction from LID 50; such as speed of cars driving opposite directions with 1 car parked on the north side of the road, saw the identified cracks in the side walk that were marked for warranty repair, the status and progress of landscaping and sprinkler systems that still needed to be completed. 9:30 A.M. Basic American Tour: City Council toured the Basic American Foods plant. They discussed the growth of the plant as well as the City and how it is growing around them. They considered discussions and growth updates with Basic American Foods every six months to a year. Both parties discussed a desire to be good neighbors and ways to mitigate issues that might arise from growth of their business as well as the City. 11:30 A.M. 911 Dispatch Center and Jail Tour: City Council toured the 911 Dispatch Center and met the individuals who work there. They described what their job entails (multi-tasking, listening to several conversations at once, coordinating responses and directing fire, ambulance and police to incidents, directing callers on potentially life saving processes, etc), shift hours (12 hour shifts), staffing issues, emotional toll, and training time (about a year). The City Council then toured the Madison County Jail. The officers showed their intake process, the daily schedule, and shared their policy of respect and safety for staff and inmates alike. 12:15 - 1:00 P.M. Lunch at City Hall Council Chambers 1:15 P.M. Escape Room at Rexburg Museum: The City Council went through the Escape Room at the Rexburg Museum. 1:45 P.M. East Parkway Corridor Review: Public Works Director, Keith Davidson, reviewed and drove the approximate projected area that the Corridor would be built. It is a long term project they are working on to handle future development on the east side of Rexburg and relieve traffic on 2nd East. / 2:15 P.M. Roundabout at Pioneer Rd and 7th South Review: Public Works Director, Keith Davidson, reviewed plans for the roundabout construction on Pioneer Rd prior to the railroad tracks. / 2:45 P.M. 5th West Expansion Review: Public Works Director, Keith Davidson, reviewed and drove the approximated projected area of the North 5th West Expansion. This is a future project that will also relieve traffic off of North 2nd East and possibly tie into a future overpass over Highway 20 to the west side of Rexburg. Some of the funding could possibly come from the Urban Renewal District. This project is still in the planning stages and could change based on the City’s development. Adjournment: 3:14 p.m.
