Subject: Proposed zoning change to low density residential 2
Dear city clerk,
I am writing to voice my opposition to the proposed rezoning of the land near Hidden Valley from LDR1 to LDR2. I am
unfortunately unable to attend the meeting tomorrow evening.
A few years ago we considered downsizing our current home, and we looked at lots in Summerfield by the high school,
and considered a home in the neighborhood by the water tower. While we found the houses to be appealing, we felt
the neighborhoods were not. There was significantly more noise, light pollution, scattered toys, unattended children,
and traffic.
I understand that Rexburg is growing, and I understand that there is a lack of affordable housing. I however don’t
support mixing in zoning changes to places where it doesn’t fit the existing neighborhoods, and serves no purpose as a
transition between urban and suburban areas. This sure feels like a reactionary solution because of a lack of planning by
the city in previous decades.
I’m not convinced that the proposed neighborhoods would significantly reduce property values, but I do think the
change would make our location less desirable. Maybe we would only feel this in the extra time it would take to sell our
home when we do move, but it would certainly add more stress to our daily lives. The city didn’t hesitate to raise our
property taxes as home values increased, and now the city threatens to significantly change the nature of our
neighborhood.
I respectfully ask the the zoning commission reject this proposed change.
Thank you
Jon Klein
