Reference 'is made to our visit to your building and the
discussions regarding the renovation workr bring it into
compliance with. the Uniform Building code requirements for a new
restaurant. The items discussed were as follows.
1# ENTRY WAY
Work needs to be done to the main front entrance of the building
to bring it into compliance with the "handicapped" r i f
the U.B.C. and the A.D.A. Thisi r iii' relat,ively
flat landing on el'ther side of the new door and encu.gh extra width
at the door to allow someone in a wheel chair to be able to -openthe r r. T '
j_ng ramp leading up to the door landing
should have no more than a 129.1 l desirably; however, a 1
lope is allowed on reconstruction work if suchr slope i

chair access requirements at doorways, access ramp handrail
requirements, etc.) To help wi this reconstruction the Cit
would ll e sidewalk to be removed and replaced to providea
higher "back -of -sidewalk" adie doorway entrance -P however, the
slope of the new sideway (sloping from
directions could not be greater than 300#16
2* RESTROOMS
Technically, there should be two
,xis. requirements. or the
rr mere & women)meeting
re could be two restrooms (men
not meet -1 -ng handicapped requ irementsu a unisex restroom
meeting a i - e requirements. As this is reconstruct ion work
where we have some latitude for campromi[.se, we have agreed
the men's restroom a "as is"; however, the women's restroom
wouldl arged and retrofitted to rneet all handicapped
requirement and sj-gned as both "" a"unisex "t
T restroom i*s really too small and crowded for the amount
of usage from a restaurant of th's type and, size, Ne hoPe that
the restaurant is successful and that you will be able to gra e
the men's restroom f ori too ion
g.
CEILING
We understand that the ceili'ngill be repaired and replastered
and that a lower false ceiling will be installed. Lights
lowered false ceiling need to he separatelyattached to the
permanent ceiling as shown on the enclosed drawing to minimize
light movement /breakage/ 1 ling Burin

BASEMENT
The basement must be separated from the 1st floor din.'
ng
room/kitchen are "by not less than one hour

be 2 layers f 1, gypsum board attached to the bottom
joists see attachedri for overlap rdetails)
separating the basement from the l t floor . The 3 pint: between
the gypsum boards need to be taped. This is the minimum
improvement necessary to provide for the safety f the people i
the restaurant the I t floor,
If the

meet toils standards, the basement would need, to have a fire

the north end and the other near the south n of the

door requirements that have to be met. The existing door and
stairway t the southwest corner of the basement do not meet these
standards,
Tt is my understanding that you are goi.ng to
