than the basic area permitted in the occupancy by Table No. 5-C for such minor
uses, for the purpose of determining allowable area, the major use of the building

(d) Mezzanines. Unless considered as a separate start', the floor area of all mez-
zanines shall be included in calculating the allowable floor area of the stories in
which the ni.ezzanines are located.
x (e) Basements. A basement need not be included in the total allowable area, pro-
vided
such basement dogs not exceed the area permitted for aone-story building.
� (f} Area Separation Walls. 1. General. Each portion of a buildingseparated by
�one or more area separation walls which campy with the provisions of this sub -sec-
tion may be considered a separate building. The extent -and location of such area
rt separation walls shall provided a coniplete separation.
When an area separation wall also separates occupancies that are required to be
separated by an occupancy separation, the most restrictive requirements of each
separation shall apply.
2. F Area separation walls shall not be 'of less than four-hour
fire -resistive construction in Types. I, II-F.R., III and IV buildings and two-hour
fire -resistive construction in Type 11 One-hour, 11-N or V buildings. The total width
of all openings in such walls shall not exceed 25 percent of the I e n Crth of the wait in
each stogy. All openings shall be protected by a fire assembly having athree-hour
fire -protection rating in four-hour fire-resistive walls and one- and one -half-hour
fire-pi-otection rating in two -tour Fire -resistive walls.
3. Extensions beyond exterior walls. Area separation walls shall extend to the
outer edges of horizontal projecting elements such as balconies, roof overhangs,
canopies., marquees or architectural projections..
EXCEPTION: When horizontal projecting elements do not contain concealed
spares, the area separatioii wall may germinate at the exterior wall.
When the horizontal projecting elements contain concealed spaces, the area sepa-
radon wall need only extend through the concealed space to the outer edges ❑f the
projecting elements.
The extedor walls and the projecting elements above shall not be of less than
one-hour fire -resistive construction for a distance not less than the depth of the proj-
ecting elements on bath sides of ttae area separatioYl wall. Opeiiiiigs within such

widths shall be protected by fire assemblies having afire-protection rating of not less

4.. Terminating. Area, separation walls shall extend from the foundation to d

point at feast 30 inches above the roof.
�I EXCEPTIONS: 1. Area separation walls may terminate at the underside of the
I roof sheathing, deck or slab, provided the roof -ceiling assembly is of at least two-
- hour fire -resistive construction.
2. Two-hour area separation walls may terrni�iat�e at the underside of the roof
sheathing, deck car slab, provided:
A. Where the roof -ceiling framing elements are parallel to the walls, such fram-
ing and elements supporting such framing shall not be of less than one-hour

B. 'Where roof -ceiling framing elements are perpendicular to the will, the entire
span of such framing and elements supporting such framing shall not be of

3. Twa-hour'area separation walls may terminate at the underside of noncombus-
tible roof sheathina, deck or slab of roofs of noncombustible construction provided:
A. openings in the roof a.re not located within 5 feet of the area separation wall.
B. The entire building is provided with not less than a Class B roofing.
5. Parapet faces. Parapets of area separation wails shall have noncombustible
yes for the uppe�ast 1 S inches, including counterf�a�hing and coping materi
rnals.
C. Buildings of different heights. where an area separation wall separates por-
)ns of a building having different heights, such wall may terminate at a point 30
rhes above the lower roof level, provided the exterior wall for a height of 10 feet
�ove the lower roof is of one-hour fife-resi'pstiye construction with openings pro-
cted by assemblies having athree- fourths -hour fire-protection rating.
EXCEPTION: The area separation wall may terminate at the underside of the
roof sheathing, deck or slab of the lower roof, provided:
A. Where the roof -ceiling framing elements are parallel to the wall, such framing
. and elements supporting such framing shall not be of less than one-hour
fire -resistive construction for a width of 10 feet along the wall at the lower
roof. .
B. Where the lower roof -ceiling framing elements are perpendicular to the wall,
the entire span of such framing and elements supporting such gaming shall
not be of less than one-hour fire -resistive construction.
C. Openingirs in the lower roof shall not be located within 14 feet of the area sepa-
ration wall.

Sec. X06, (a) General. The floor areas specified in Section 505 may be increased
by one of the following:'
1. Separation on two sides. Where public ways or yards more thaix ZO deet in
