Each sidewalk intersection to be depressed should be designed for the safety & convenience of the pedestrians and the handicapped. The transition slopes and the slope from the back at the sidewalk to the curb & gutter should be kept at a minimum. Slopes that are too steep will cause problems for the handicapped and the elderly. Steep slopes will also present a problem for oil pedestrians during icy weather. 3. 4 inches of 3/4 compacted aggregate base shall be required under all concrete where unsuitable base material is encountered, if fill material is required, or where directed by City Engineer.
