We arrived on site at around 3:00 pm. We talked to the contractor and he informed us where the
density tests needed to take place. He said that half of the building was ready but that the other half
had gotten too much water so they were drying it out. He compacted the half that wasn’t ready. We
took density tests in all 4 corners of the building and all corners passed easily. We informed the
contractor of the results and left. We arrived back at the lab at about 4:30 pm.

proceeded to take them and they all passed above specs. Then at 3:00 pm, a concrete truck arrived
for the pour, I set up my equipment and took my sample. Finally, I performed all the tests successfully.

Observations/ Remarks:
I left the lab at 8:19 and headed to the job site. I arrived at 8:30 and found where densities were
needed to be shot. I then got my gauge out and got it running with the correct input. I then shot
densities on all four corners of the building within the foundation on the 3/4 base, and everything
passed beautifully. After notifying the contractor I asked if there was anything else I could do for him.
And then after hearing a no I proceeded to put my gear away. I then proceeded to observe that the
whole pad had been completely compacted and then I left the job site. I arrived back at the lab at 9:54.

Arrived just after 9:00am, tested footing pad for building D1. Then waited almost two hours for them
to finish D3 footing pad before testing that. I talked to Chris and he told me that the pit run was
roughly a foot deep. Don showed up and I communicated with him at 12:30pm. He told me that they
actually used 2 lifts of pit run on each footing pad, but that it’s okay for me to just test the top of the
combined lifts, since the depth is roughly a foot or slightly more. Don had me run a couple quick tests
on their first lift of building D4 to see where they’re at, which did not pass. He said that they had to
remove some of the softer native soil and replace it with more pit run. Also that section is not up to
grade so they will work on it this afternoon then I can return around 3:30pm to take further tests of
D4 footing pad once they add water, then take tests after they add the next lift to make it up to grade.

Arrived at 3pm and they were just finishing up the D4 footing pad. Chris added water to the previous
lift (per my recommendation) and rolled over it again after testing 93-94% compaction earlier this
afternoon. Then they moved ahead with the rest of the pit run before I arrived, but he said it’s fine for
me to just test the final product. I adjusted to test at 12 inches depth instead of 8 inches just to be
sure, and everything still passed. Native soil grade was lower on this building than the adjacent
buildings, so that is why they added extra pit run to this specific footing pad. I tested the D4 footing
pad in the same manner as the D1 and D3 pads, except for the higher testing depth. Chris requested
that I return to the site at 12:00pm tomorrow to run the same tests for building D2.

Arrived just after 12:00pm, and almost everyone was gone probably for lunch. Talked to Manny and
the workers Nathan and Brock when they returned at 12:30pm. They said that their crew was not able
to even start the footing pad for building D2 which I came to test densities for. Turns out that the
grade for buildings D3 and D4 were 2” too high, so they need to take off extra material, and I will most
likely have to test those pads again. The concrete crew was there so I talked with them and they told
me the pour will be pushed back to 4:00pm.

Arrived at 3:15pm to set up but the pour didn’t start until 4:00pm. After getting an air content of 3.8%
on the first truck, one of the contractors wanted us to test from the second truck just to confirm the
low air. Tested the second truck twice and both times got an air content of 2.5%. The contractor was
concerned and had previous problems with Walter’s concrete being below specs for air, but said it will
be fine with these footings.

Arrived at 6:15 and the trucks showed up at the scheduled 6:30am time. The concrete truck driver told
me firsthand that the contractor ordered concrete with low air content. Air content of 1.1% made
sense for this case, and the measured slump of 6 inches matched what Walter’s tested for slump on
the same concrete mix.

I was told. They were almost done with the pour when I arrived, so I barely received the concrete
sample in time. I reported the results to Cameron, one of the workers. He also said that the concrete
pour for Friday at 6:30 am was canceled, and called his boss Scott to confirm the cancellation.

Arrived with Alvaro at 9:30. I talked to Don and there was some confusion between them and the
previous guys that showed up this morning. We did a couple test shots on D2, which did not pass and
clearly did not appear compacted. Then I talked to the general contractor, Thor, and he said that we
actually needed to test building D4 footing pad, not D2. I reported the passing results of D4 to Don,
but told him that D2 was not compacted. Don told me that D2 pad was finished and compacted and we
don’t need to test it. However that one is not finished, and we should still test once they are done with
D2. (First photo is D4 pad, 2nd photo is D2 pad).

I arrived on site at approximately 2:30 pm. The foundation walls were not ready for the concrete so
the contractor used the wall concrete for the footings. The air was low and I informed the
superintendent from the contractor and they decided to continue the pour. I observed that a
mechanical vibrator was used and I observed the duration of the pour.

Arrived just after 12:00pm and they were in the middle of compacting the pit run. It passed quickly
and I informed both Don and Chris. They said that building D2 backfill is not ready yet, so they want
me back to test again tomorrow morning at 9:00am.
Items observed are in general conformance with approved project documents and jurisdictional requirements.
