RE; Fire Alarm System, Nauvoo House
Dear Mayor and Council:
The Building Cade Appeals Board met Thursday, September 3p, 1999 to consider an a+e by the
owners of the subject Project. In constructing the two presently completed apartment structures, the owner
opted to install an exterior alarm sounding device allowed by the NFPA Fire Code in lies of alarm system
sounding in each living area. Code requirements specify the exteriorafarm system be capable of producing
a sound exceeding ambient sound levels in the living areas by 15 decibels minimum. A daytime test of the
exterior alarm system has demonstrated difficulty in the exterior alarm system being able to achieve the

f have been authorized on behalf of the Appeals Board to repot our decision, From the evidence presented,
we f eel the nature at construction and the present fire warm system adequate iy provide f o r the safety of the
occupants, We recommend that no further action be required other than to ratify the owners of this
decision. We wish to clarify that this recammendation applies only to the two presently constructed
structures; subsequent phases of this complex or other similar structures constructed by others should be
planned to meet all applicable code provisions.
