have reviewed the plans for the fire warm system for the Ricks College Smith
Building remodel and camp up with the following items that need to be addressed:
The review is based on true 75 candela strobes being installed.
First Floor
Telephone Relay Room 149A inadequate strobe coverage. NFPA 72 Sec. 6-
4.4.2.2
Recommend Pull Stations: Hall 1-C North Exit, outside exit from Classroom 129,
bottom of Stairs #1 and #3. UFC Sec. 1007.3.3.1
Second Floor
Is Room 273 and Room 276 common use?
Lecture Room 24Q inadequate strobe coverage.

The following Uniform Fire Code sections are included for your reference-,
1007.3.3. 1 Manual fire alarm boxes. When a manual fire alarm system is required,
manual fire alarm boxes shall be distributed throughout so that they are readily
accessible, unobstructed, and are located in the normal path of exit travel from the
area and as follows:
1. At every exit from every bevel.
2. Add*lfional fire alarm boxes shall be located so that travel distance to the nearest
box does not exceed 200 feet AGO 960 mm),
When fire alarm systems are not monitored, an
approved permanent sign that reads
LOCAL ALARM ONLY -CALL FIRE DEPARTMENT shall be installed adjacent to
each manual fire alarm box.
EXCEPTION: Separate signs need not be provided when the manufacturer has
permanently provided this information on the manual fire alarm box
1047.3.3.3.3 Audibility. The alarm signal shall be a distinctive sound which is not
used for any other purpose other than the fire -alarm. Alarm -signaling devices shalt
produce a pound that exceeds the prevailing equivalent sound level in the ream or

space hv 15 decibels minimum, or exceeds any ma mum sound level with a
durnfipn cif 3fl seconds minimum hv.5 decibels minimumwhichever is louder. Sound
levels for warm signals shall be 120 decibels maximum
1007.3.3.3.4 Visual warms. Alarm systems shafl include both audible and visual
alarms. Alarm devices shall be located in hotel guest rooms as required by the
Building Cade (see UBC Section 1105.4.6); accessible public- and common -use
areas, including toilet rooms and bathing facilities; hallways; and lobbies. (see
Council of American Building Officials/American National Standards Institute
Standard A1 17.1-1992, Section 4-26.2, for additional information about visual
signals.)
Visual devices can not be blocked in any manner.

i reviewed the remadel plans for this building and game up with the following items
that need to be addressed;
The firs department access to this building is not adequate and seeds to be
improved.
The fire alarm system is being upgraded. i view this as a substantial upgrade therefor
the firs alarm system for the whole building will be required to be brought up to
current Uniform Fire Code requirements. 1 will need plans submitted to me for review
showing the following items. Plans and specifications for fire alarm systems shall
include, but not be limited to, a floor plan; locabon of a1[ alarm -initiating and alarm -
signaling devices; alarm control- and trouble -signaling equipment; annunciation;
power connection; battery calculations; conductor type and sizes; voltage drop
calculations- and manufac#urer,, model numbers and �isbnq information for all
equipment, devices and materials.
