HomeMy WebLinkAboutFor City Council-- regarding the rezoning proposal of the 12th West - Richard & Tammy GeddesDear Mayor and City Council, Due to other responsibilities, we were unable to attend the city council meeting this week and have since watched it online. Thank you—each of you. Perhaps it's the research we've done in trying to understand other perspectives regarding the rezoning of the parcel on 12th West, but we are extremely grateful for each of you and your comments and views. Mayor Merrill, you gave staff opportunity to educate us. Thank you so very much. Understanding the infrastructure as Keith Davidson explained it is helpful. We sincerely appreciate your desire to help us know the processes including that developers meet regularly with staff to see that they are within the parameters the city has set. Also, starter homes in Rexburg and everywhere across the country are outrageously priced right now, aren’t they? It is tough to pay so much for a home knowing that the market will change immensely. No one wants to be upside down in a mortgage. Council, we appreciate you acknowledging that this community’s voices were at the very least, heard. This is an entirely different feel from our Planning and Zoning experience. Maybe it’s supposed to be that way. We don’t know. So, thank you for acknowledging those of us in the community who are long time residents who love this place. Council Member Flora, We know a bit about the time it takes to gather information and digest it. Thank you for your presentation and for the way you looked at the decision at hand as impartially as you could. Council Member Mann, thank you for tuning in on this matter and providing your long time experience working in community capacities. Council Member Busby, as a highly involved member of the school district your insight is invaluable as this city grows. City growth affects schools. You understand the 12th West congestion from an administrator’s point of view. Safety with those new drivers from the high school is of great concern. (Commissioner Haley agreed to your point in an earlier P&Z meeting.) Council Member Walker, we agree that we can’t think that we “will" have rural zoning in the "new impact” areas at a future time. It is true that we have to keep the future in mind while making decisions for today. The future can hold empty hope. Council Member Johnson, the very data you shared was one that we have still been researching. You shared that in your (what we thought would be) “stable” neighborhood, several homes are rented. It isn’t apartments only that are rentals. Thank you for validating something that has been disconcerting to us. Recognizing that development is coming to our backyard, we welcome new neighbors and hope they can come and stay awhile. Sincerely, Rich and Tammy Geddes
