Keith Romney, owner of the Salt Lake City -based company, asked to change the area from Medium Density Residential area to a High -Density Residen- tial area for a complex that could eventually house more than 750 students. The plans call for seven three-story buildings that would each house 18 apartments, with six single students in each apartment, Romney says. There will also be a clubhouse with a computer room, a pian and phase will be, four buildings to accommodate men's housing, he says. The company also owns some land surrounding the pro- posed complex, on which he says he may build duplexes or four- plexesfor married student hous- a m A few neighbors turned out for the hearing with concerns about more student traffic in residential areas, future growth e and the southward extension of Yale Road. The road now ends at Aspen Village's parking lot and could be extended to the h east border of Eaglewood Enter- prises' property. The council approved the change, saying it fits with the o comprehensive plan. was in agreement with the com- prehensive plan. Both votes came at the coun- cil's regular meeting Wednes- day. After it was tabled, the issue went back to the Rexburg Plan- ning and Zoning Commission and was returned with a recom- mendation to approve the change. Council members Kay Beck, Glen Pond, Marsha Bjornn, Donna Benfield and Paul Pugmire voted for the change. Councilman Nyle Full- mer voted against it.
