HomeMy WebLinkAboutWRITTEN RESPONSE - Brunson, Kristine - 352 W 1st N - Rezone from LDR to MDRPlanning and Zoning Commission City of Rexburg, Idaho 12 North Center Rexburg, ID 83440 Planning and Zoning Commission We the undersigned residents of I" North street and surrounding area are united in our strong opposition to the proposed zone change from LDR 1 to MDR for the property located at 352 W. I" N. in Rexburg. It is our understanding that the proposal is to allow for the building of two four-plex apartments and a duplex on the above listed property. To us it is illogical to construct a multiplex in a single residence zone. Certainly the city planner understands the importance of maintaining the character and personality of various sections of the town and has as his or her responsibility to plan ahead for the development of multi resident dwellings in areas where it is determined appropriate. We do not believe it is wise or in the best interest of the residents of this area to piecemeal our single dwelling zoning with multi -dwelling zoning. Have you considered the drop in property values that often accompanies this type of inappropriate restructuring of zoning laws simply because an individual wants to make a buck? The residents of 1" North are young families and retirees. The families have several young children who play up and down the street, walk to school, and travel past this property in route to the dirt hills, fair grounds, and the Nature Park. The addition of several more cars entering and exiting this area is of great concern to us for the safety of our children and the increase in traffic patterns? Also, have you considered the problems with snow removal? The indicated property is located between two homes owned by retirees who have lived here for decades and are entitled to the peace and quiet that should reside in a neighborhood zoned for single dwelling residences. One resident would be completely sandwiched between two apartment complexes. This is not right and it's not fair. This also brings up a question for consideration. Are the current two four-plexes located at the west end of the street zoned properly? The addition of more apartment complexes would change the neighborhood away from that which we currently enjoy and want to maintain. Again, it is the responsibility of the city planner to protect neighborhood character. Have you considered the following? Does the property in question contain sufficient space for the number of proposed dwellings taking into account the zoning laws for set backs to the road and neighboring structures, and the required parking spaces for the number of dwellings? It is our desire to maintain the current atmosphere and family dwelling zoning laws that we currently call home. Therefore, we object to the proposal for rezoning and recommend that there be no changes.
