2003 IRC Heat Loss / Heat Gain Plan Review and Field
Inspection Checklist2/05
Numbers in parenthesis refer to applicable sections in the 2003 IRC.
Plan Review:
Before accepting a submittal you may wish to be sure of the following:
Yes/No
• Are submitted documents of sufficient clarity? (R106.1.1)
• If software, is it ACCA Manual J, 8b' ED. certified? (M1401.3)
• Are there room by room load calculations shown? (M1401.3)
• Is there a duct design based on ACCA Manual D? (M1601.1)
• Are the appliances specified correctly by ACCA Manual S?
(11106.1.1, M1601.1) ACCA Manual S regulates equipment sizing: +40% Nat Gas,
+15% AC.
Through the plan review process you may wish to verify the following:
• Is the design location correct?
/
• Is the building orientation correct?
• Are the design parameters correct? (Inside htg=70, clg=75)
• Do the R-values specified in the plans match the calculations?
• Do the U-values specified in the plans match the calculations?
• Check the gross areas for walls, Floors, ceilings, doors and glazing.
• Are there any fireplaces correctly specified?
• Are the rooms accurate?
• Is there any window shading?
• Are the ducts located in conditioned space? 7
• If yes, is there a BTU loss for the duct system? (Incorrect.) `—
• If no, is the proper duct insulation specified?
Field inspections will require a stamped copy of the approved duct design and
equipment selection on site. You may wish to determine compliance with the
following:
• Has the duct design be followed?
• Have appropriate controls to assure design CFM been installed?
• Has all required duct insulation been installed?
• Has the specified equipment been installed?
The information listed above is simply reference material to assist with achieving
code compliance in regard to equipment sizing and duct design only.
