Dear City Council Members,
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to address the trade of property between the
City of Rexburg and Mr. Zollinger. As most of you are aware, the said property in which
Mr. Zollinger intends to acquire will have a direct effect on our company, Mom's Kandy
Kitchen.
You may ask the question, why would this move have any consequences on the said
business? The main reason is that the west side of the building housing Mom's Kandy
Kitchen is facing Center Street. We have a sign and a mural that attract people to our
place of business. We consider this to be our store front. If a new building is allowed to
be built in front of our store it will'block the view of our building from Center Street.
Without this frontage facing a main thoroughfare it would damage our ability to bring in
new customers who might not be aware of us, those living in town and those visiting the
college.
From what I understand, Mr. Zollinger's proposed property will be leased by Gringos
restaurant. I am assuming that the only reason they want to switch properties is so that
Gringos will not lose any business while building their new restaurant. I understand that
fully, but what I don't understand is that while this gives their business income for the
three months to build, it can hurt our income for the life of our business.
If the reason is to open up the alley to accommodate for more parking spaces, I believe all
this will do is expose the unsightly backs of older buildings to the view of the public. No
additional parking will be created by moving over because the size of the new building
will be the same which ever side of the parking lot they build on.
I see no benefit to the City with this trade. It will only be hurting our business which is
needed to help keep this section of the city viable. Please consider the consequences of
this action.

My remedy to this situation, would be to either build in their current location now or to
wait and see what will happen with the grant money from the state and decide whether or
not our block would be considered to be upgraded at that time.
I will be attending the hearing on June 5`h and wish to be given time to speak further on
this decision.
Thank you for your understanding in considering these other options.
Respec;fully,
