In the Romney Building, the exisirng toilet rooms in the west wing were constructed
to the code of the day. At the time of construction, these provided the accessible toilets
for the building. The toilet rooms in the east part of the building are of a size and
configuration that if they were to be accessible, they would be one or two fixture rooms.
Modification of the existing tol*letrooms is technically infeasible.
If you have any quest -ions, please calf me.

FIRE SPRINKLER PROTECTION SYSTEM MODIFICATION
wm
The existing observatory area is not protected by the existing fire protection system and the new plans do
not show sprinklers extending into this area. It is our understanding that the fire authority is requiring that
'L;y
this area be protected. The following describes the requirements for protecting this area.
Please instruct the contractor to extend an anti -freeze SYACM to, protect the observatory area., including the
observatory space and adjacent water treatment and/or storage rooms. The stairway g sta ant'1-freeze loop is to be
installed per +IFPA 1.3 requirements. We suggest that the existing y leading to the observatory and
roof (near gads L.5 and 4.5) as a possible location for the anti' -freeze loop valves and fill station. A

Dear Lloyd,
6 June 2005
While doing an inspection at the -Romney B j1ding lash week I noticed the railings on the
second Boor of the, main entrance only had an intermediate horizontal raifing. While this may
have been according to cede at the time the building was built and the stairs are not bein,

rem+d aft this time I tho!jnh.t it would be advisable to inform you that there is a safety risk of
falling through the railings to the floor/stairs below for little children who might be visiting the
bu'llding. Some kind of woad, metal or plastic cold be installed easily and at minimal post to
alleviate the situation. There is no requirement in the cede to make this change but. as

precaution something should be done to remove the situation. Thanks for your Seip and
consideration. If I can be of any assistance please feed free to call me.
