HomeMy WebLinkAboutVARIANCE REQUEST - Strobel, Shawna - 20 Mill RaceDear Planning Commission,
I would like you to consider my request for a semi -circular driveway
and a side approach to my garage which exceeds the 30% driveway
allowance in the city ordinance. I intentionally planned not to have as much
yard to maintain and more hard surface in the landscaping of my home. I did
not realize that there was this stipulation in the city ordinance. We have had a
similar driveway at our old home on 444 Morgan Dr. ( and I am sure was not
in compliance with the 30% limit) In the back of my new home I want all
deck and patio and limit flowers to containers or small patches for ease of
maintenance in our older years. I will have some grass and plantings in the
front but intend to keep it as easy to care for as possible. I wanted less lot
than the 80 foot frontage that we have and designed this house to take as
much lot as possible on a 70 foot frontage only to find out that Gene Palmer
could not sell less than the 80 feet because of the ordinances for this
subdivision. Now I have more side yard than I anticipated. Which we will put
in lawn.
I have been waiting since May for this phase to clear planning so I
could buy this lot which is behind my son's house. He has said he would help
take care of us in our old age and this would be convenient for him.
However, I need easy access to the front door as this driveway plan allows so
my husband will not have a long walk to the door. He is now using a cane
and or walker.
I would appreciate knowing if this is possible with the city ordinance as
it is as soon as possible. Perhaps we would be better off staying in the condo
we are renting as there is not any yard care here and this has been one of our
concerns as well as one story living. Thanks for considering this in your
meeting. I have enclosed a picture of the driveway we intend installing on
this property along with the pressed concrete front porch.
Sincerely, Ed and Shawna Strobel
